Campus Recreation at Florida Gulf Coast University, now part of the newly formed Division of Student Success & Enrollment Management, is seeking candidates for the Associate Director - Programs & Outreach position. Join an exciting team during an exciting time as we begin construction of Phase 1 of the University Recreation & Wellness Center. The facility is set to open in January 2020.
The Associate Director, Programs will oversee the organization, administration and manage the daily programs in Campus Recreation, which include Intramural Sports, Fitness, Outdoor Pursuits, and Sport Clubs. The Associate Director, Programs will be responsible for the development and monitoring of budget, policy development and compliance, risk management, and assessing programming effectiveness and satisfaction to ensure that programs are compliant with university and student association policies and regulations.
Essential Job Duties:
Oversees the organization and administration, and manages the daily operations of the programs in Campus Recreation that include: Intramural Sports, Fitness, Outdoor Pursuits, and Sport Clubs.
Plans staff levels, provides oversight, direction, leadership, and ongoing development and training to staff. Develops goals and objectives and completes Annual Performance Appraisals.
Leads employees to meet the organization’s expectations for productivity, quality, and accomplished goals.
Provides leadership to support the Director with overall management of the department to include; budget management, facility planning/design, strategic planning, risk management, personnel management, and implementation of programs designed for the recreational needs of the campus community. Maintains records and prepares reports on program areas.
Serves as primary leader for department for student staff development program. This includes evaluating current program, developing new initiatives, and planning and organizing semester kick-off events and programs.
Serves as primary leader for departmental assessment efforts including maintaining participant data, establishing and evaluating student employee learning outcomes, coordinating benchmarking research program, and assisting Director in Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) accreditation efforts.
Collaboratively plans and coordinates major school events sponsored by Campus Recreation and other departments within the Division of Student Success & Enrollment Management.
Coordinates department outreach programs, represents department at University functions, and serves on University committees.
Makes appropriate administrative decisions in absence of Director of Campus Recreation. Serves and leads department work teams/committees.
Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus including pre-storm preparation, post-storm clean-up and replacement of stored goods to ready campus for operation after a storm; or other services assigned.

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in recreation, Sports Management, College Student Personnel Management, or related field.
Five years of full-time professional experience in campus/university recreation.
Must have CPR/AED and First-Aid certifications or must obtain within 30 days of hire.
Seven years of full-time professional experience in campus/university recreation.
Experience supervising full-time staff and graduate assistants.
Experience directly managing any of following program areas: fitness, sport clubs, intramural sports, and/or outdoor adventure.
Experience managing outdoor field spaces.
