As an integral part of Wellness at ASU, the engagement team is leading the way in providing personalized frameworks for students to establish and maintain positive health habits at ASU and beyond. We do this by, assessing student health and wellness needs, providing a variety of programs and building environments that promote healthy living, decision-making and student engagement for students to ultimately be better equipped to succeed in their academics, career and in their personal lives. This person will also be responsible for taking a leadership role in cultivating, creating and ensuring student participation in ASU Spirit, Pride and Tradition while instilling institutional affiliation and college pride.
The Student Engagement through Sports and Special Events Coordinator serves as a central member of the Wellness@ASU team and is primarily located at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex-Tempe. This position is responsible for developing student employees into student leaders, through ongoing training, assessment and development of student staff. This candidate is also responsible for the expansion and delivery of focused sports programming and summer Kids Camp at the Tempe location. The Student Engagement through Sports and Special Events Coordinator works in a team setting to deliver programs and services across ASU’s four campuses in the Metro Phoenix area.
There are many opportunities within Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS); roles shift and evolve to support the needs of the institution. Therefore, it is important for this person to maintain a nimble approach to service. SPORTS/SPECIAL EVENT JOB DUTIES
Student Staff Development: Utilize principles of growth mindset when facilitating the engagement, development, hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of a dynamic student staff that consist of student coordinators, student managers, event staff, and kids camp staff.
Special Events: Create dynamic and consistent programming that promotes student community and meets the changing needs of the ASU student body. Coordinate on-campus events and games for the sports program. Assist with large special events on the Tempe Campus like Rock the Rec, Gold Rush, etc. Work with marketing student leadership to create a plan to promote sport events, performances, team and player recognition, and community service endeavors.
Leadership Development: Design and implement development and leadership opportunities for student leaders. Mentor student leaders as they navigate the policies, procedures, and processes of the Sports Program.
Club Management: Organize, correlate, and collect all information on member registration software. Manage safety officer program by running all trainings, leading meetings, organizing certifications, and updating information. Oversee club allocation budgets, operational budgets, and ASU Foundation budgets. Manage all club travel, purchases, and reimbursements through management software. Manage the coaches registration system and develop relationships and great communication with all coaches.
KIDS’ CAMP JOB DUTIES
Assist in the management of the day-to-day operations of the Sun Devil Kids’ Camp including registration processes, field trips, facility oversight, equipment purchasing, arts and crafts, Friday fun days, wellness activities, swim lessons, field trips, etc.
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate approximately 75 camp counselors, managers, and coordinators.
Interact with parents and guardians and ensure an outstanding level of customer service.
ADMINISTRATION JOB DUTIES
Have a comprehensive understanding of holistic health and implement health and wellbeing programming into the sports programs.
Responsible for taking a leadership role in cultivating, creating and ensuring student participation in ASU Spirit, Pride and Tradition.
Develop collaborative relationships with all academic partners.
Provide input in all areas of Sun Devil Fitness as a collaborative and team effort.
Cultivate an inclusive and diverse environment for student participants and staff.
Address patron comments, concerns, behaviors and conduct issues as necessary and with outstanding customer service.
Assist with creating, forecasting, monitoring and allocating the various budgets.
Assist with purchasing and maintenance of program equipment and supplies.
Enforce program and facility policies correctly and consistently and ensure a high level of risk management is present in the programs and services.
Provide ongoing assessment and evaluation of programs and services.
Exhibit outstanding problem solving skills by addressing unexpected issues with limited supervision.
Perform other duties as specified by the Assistant Director, Associate Directors, and Executive Director of Sun Devil Fitness.
Job location is primarily at the Tempe Campus; however the incumbent will be required to periodically travel to other ASU campuses to perform work.
Days and Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm; some weekend and evening required.
Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Evidence of a Master's degree in Higher Education, Social/Behavioral Sciences, Recreation, Leisure Studies, Sports Management, or related field and minimum one (1) year of professional experience.
Experience supervising, training, developing and evaluating student employees.
Experience with student leadership development in a higher education setting.
Experience with intramural sports, sports clubs, and/or student organizations.
Experience working with club officers, executive board members, and/or other club liaisons
Experience in large event planning
Evidence of involvement in operations of a summer/kids camp
Experience initiating collaborations with university and community partnerships.
Experience cultivating an inclusive, safe and diverse environment for student participants and staff.
Evidence of current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or willing to obtain in first thirty (30) days
Work in a fast-paced environment
Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time

Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success.
