The Assistant Director – Fitness & Wellness is responsible for the day to day operations of a comprehensive Fitness & Wellness program for students, faculty, and staff of Texas A&M University-Commerce and members of the Morris Recreation Center.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create dynamic and consistent fitness and wellness programming that promotes student community and meets the changing needs of the A&M Commerce student body.
Oversee the Group Fitness program which includes create and implementing a progressive semester group fitness schedule.
Oversee the Personal Training program which includes 1-on-1 training, buddy training, and small group training.
Develop and implement campus wellness programming that encourages, supports, and maintains a campus wide investment in well-being.
Deliver fitness and wellness programming and services to various special populations, non-traditional students, residential students, faculty/staff, and community members.
Plan, implement, and evaluate fitness and wellness special events, awareness weeks, fitness competitions, and educational workshops.
Train, supervise, evaluate, and lead a Graduate Assistant of Fitness and Wellness.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, process payroll, and evaluate group fitness instructors, personal trainers, fitness specialists, program managers, and fitness attendants.
Develop, maintain, and implement professional development/certification opportunities for fitness and wellness student staff.
Assist in the development and implementation of long-term and short-term goals for the fitness and wellness programs.
Provide recommendations on selection, layout, maintenance, and replacement of MRC fitness floor equipment.
Collaborate with interdepartmental staff and cross campus partners to provide fitness/wellness programs, educational materials, and presentations.
Coordinate, host, and evaluate regionally recognized workshops and certifications through ACSM, NSCA, ACE, etc.
Maintain monthly and yearly statistical data of fitness & wellness programming to develop and enhance program needs.
Project and fiscally maintain four fitness and wellness budgets including group fitness, personal training, and wellness.
Responsible for the inventory and maintenance of fitness and wellness program equipment.
Utilizes IMLeagues and Fusion online for group fitness and personal training registration
Establish and oversee risk management policies for the fitness & wellness programming.
Assist marketing program in promoting and marketing fitness and wellness programs.
Assist with all special events and/or programming within the Campus Recreation Department.
Serve on the campus wellness committee.
Maintain current and future nationally recognized fitness and personal training certifications.
Attend national, regional and state professional workshops and conferences.
Department funded professional development up to $2800 that includes regional and national conferences as well as certifications.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management, Outdoor Recreation, Business or related field.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Six (6) years of related experience including supervisory experience. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, leadership, problem solving, and organizational skills. Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.
Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Licensing/Professional Certifications: Current Group Exercise Instructor Certification (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, or related).

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Physiology Recreation, Sports Management, Sports Administration or related field of higher education. Experience managing a personal training program. Current Group Fitness Instructor certification in one or multiple areas (Yoga, Zumba, Spin/Cycle, Pilates, Boot Camp, TRX, etc.) Current Personal Training certification (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, or related) or ability to obtain within six months of employment. Current American Red Cross AED/CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Advanced certifications (CSCS, Special Populations, USAW, CES, FNS).
