Position Expectations and Responsibilities:
This position will report to and work collaboratively with the Senior Assistant Director of Assessment, Student Development and Fitness to administer comprehensive and progressive fitness programs and services that serve the entire university community while also promoting our mission. This individual will be expected to build, develop, and cultivate relationships with numerous department and campus constituents. They must stay abreast of trends in fitness and ensure that the department offers programs and services that are safe, inclusive, diverse, and educational.
Oversee and manage all aspects of the personal training program to include; hiring, training, evaluating, and developing staff. Develop appropriate training protocols for diverse populalations and ensure that staff are appropriately trained on implementing these protocols. Responsible for scheduling staff and managing proper payroll procedures. Develop and implement regular assessments of the program to measure learning outcomes, development opportunities, customer satisfaction, and participation statistics. Develop appropriate personal training service options and packages; work collaboratively with other fitness staff and management team to determine appropriate fee structures.
Supervise, train, develop and evaluate a Fitness Graduate Assistant. This includes; prioritizing duties and responsibilities; ensuring that staff member is well versed in the vision, mission and policies of the department, the Division of Student Life, and the university; providing regular guidance and development opportunities in both job specific tasks and personal and professional development areas.
Responsible for researching, evaluating, and recommending appropriate cardiovascular and strength training equipment and designing appropriate equipment layouts and floor plans. Serve as department contact for fitness equipment vendors. Work collaboratively with facilities staff to ensure that proper preventative maintenance and repairs are executed on fitness equipment.
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate student fitness educators. Responsibilities include: trainng student staff to proivde fitness education and services to patrons, ensure staff are well versed on providing safe and inclusive options for all users, scheduling and managing proper payroll procedures, and developing and implementing regular assessment of the staff and programs to measure learning, development, customer satisfaction and particpiation statistics.
Work collaboratively with members of recreation & wellness team and other campus partners to develop and implement initiatives and programs for the entire university community.
Develop recommendations for operating and/or personnel budgets for assigned areas. Maintain budgets in accordance with division practices. Reconcile expenditures and ensure proper stewardship of resources. Work collaboratively with business office to ensure that business functions employ best practices and are consistent with university standards.
Collaborate on and assist with departmental planning, policy development, implementation, and evaluation. Assist the Sr. Asst. Director, Sr. Associate Director and Director in the performance of non-scheduled work assignments upon notification and serve on assigned departmental and University committees.
Master’s Degree required and one year experience in fitness, preferably in the collegiate setting.
Consideration will be given for additional experience in lieu of master’s degree.
Ability to manage all aspects of a comprehensive fitness program; Contribute to developing strategies and vision for a successful and innovative program.
Knowledge of risk management issues in fitness, specifically in collegiate recreation.
Must show ability to develop long and short term goals consistent with the mission of the university, the division and the department.
Must show the ability to build, develop, and cultivate relationships across campus with a variety of constituents.
Demonstrated ability to supervise, manage, and develop student and part-time staff.
Successful candidate will be self-motivated, energetic, service minded and adept at solving problems.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents. Must possess strong communication (written/oral) as well as interpersonal skills.
Proficient at computer software (enterprise computing administration, word processing, spreadsheet, electronic communication, etc.).
Preferred areas of study include; exercise science, fitness/wellness management, health promotion, etc.
Fitness certifications in ACE, ACSM, NASM preferred.
