Graduate Assistant Position Description:
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is currently seeking a Graduate Assistant (GA) for Outdoor Adventures (OA). The GA will work alongside the Outdoor Program Coordinator to run the trip and equipment rental programs. Job duties will primarily focus on the training and management of OA trip leader staff, trip preparation (paperwork, acquiring rentals, equipment checking, etc.), and leading trips or workshops. The Graduate Assistant will be required to work 20 hours per week while pursuing a graduate degree.
Plan, implement, lead, and evaluate outdoor programming for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Assist in the oversight of the equipment rental program and its staff.
Lead In-Service Trainings for both OA trip staff and rental staff.
Aid in budget development and management, as well as create and revise employee policy manuals.
Assist and/or lead team-building exercises for various university groups.
Work with the coordinator to purchase equipment, track inventory, and maintain equipment.
Provide outdoor activity-themed collaborative programming by working with Rec Sports and other university programs.
Additional responsibilities as required.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four year institution with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
Admission into a Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi graduate program.
Relevant work experience in outdoor programming.
Ability to excel in a dynamic and challenging atmosphere.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desire to continue a career in campus recreation post-graduation.
Experience in a supervisory role (i.e. Student Manager, Program Supervisor, Trip Leader, etc.)
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certifications.
Served as a Senior Trip Leader or equivalent high rank in an outdoor program.
