Graduate Assistant - Aquatics
Supervise employees of, and manage the open recreation and off hour rentals of the Aquatic Center
Responsible for the training, scheduling and managing of all aquatic part time staff
Interview, hire, and evaluate all aquatic part time staff
Assist with planning and facilitation of monthly lifeguard in-services
Assist in oversight of pool and spa
Develop and revise recreation center administrative policies and procedures and risk management manuals for the Aquatics
Responsible covering lifeguard shifts in emergency situations or getting them covered.
Graduate Assistant - Competitive Sports and Camps
Creates and develops administrative as well as program policies and procedures within the areas of Intramurals.
Creates promotional events for the Intramural Sports Program each semester to recruit participants that includes tabling and kick-off events.
Establish and maintain working relationships with university departments and student organizations such as Residence Life & Greek Affairs to increase participation and interest in their respective leagues.
Instruct three PEL (Physical Activity) courses per each 8 week sessions
Assist MU Police department with instructions of the RAD Class taught as a PEL
Assist in administration and oversight of the university club sports program with Student Affairs
Attend New Student Orientations to promote the Intramural Sports Program
Responsible for creating programs and events during Week of Welcome for the Intramural Sports Program to recruit and introduce intramurals to freshman students.
Hire, schedule, train, and evaluate intramural supervisors, officials, scorekeepers, and camp counselors.
Implement a comprehensive and innovative evaluating system for officials and leagues.
Assist in the expansion and growth of the Intramural Sports Program to include the creation of Summer Community Leagues and contribute to the development of new sport offerings during summer, fall, and spring semesters.
Assist with planning the operating budget for the programs
Assist with maintenance and repair of program supplies
Assist with creating the Intramural Sports & Camps schedule each semester
Work as an Intramural Supervisor/Official as needed
Graduate Assistant - Fitness & Wellness
Assist supervisor with the implementation, evaluation, and day to day operation of Group Fitness, Personal Training, and Wellness programs.
Assists with the preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets as they relate to the areas of Fitness & Wellness.
Assist with the implementation, evaluation, and operation of the Group Fitness Instructor Training and/or Personal Trainer Prep courses.
Assist with maintenance and repair of all program supplies.
Assist with implementing fitness assessment protocols and procedures.
Instruct three PEL (Physical Activity) courses per each 8 week session
Purchase equipment and items as needed for specific programs with supervisors’ approval.
Serve as instructor or trainer as needed.
Assist supervisor in interviewing, hiring, training and evaluation of Fitness & Wellness staff.
Lead staff in special program coordination, public events, campus-wide programs, etc.
Monitor and assist with payroll processing for all staff within area of responsibility.
Create and implement program policies and procedures within the areas of responsibility.
Represent the department in the areas of Fitness & Wellness at on-campus events and outreach opportunities.
Some evening/weekend work required.
Graduate Assistant - Marketing and Membership
The Graduate Assistant of Membership & Marketing will assist in the promotion of Campus Recreation through special event management, marketing and promotional opportunities and member events/interactions. The graduate assistant will assist in the supervision of part-time member & guest service staff and marketing assistants.
Assist with day-to-day operations, training and scheduling of area part-time student staff.
Assist with editing of marketing content and distribution to the appropriate channels.
May assist in design and production of print, web, and social interaction materials for the entire department.
Maintain social networking accounts and assisting with maintenance of website.
Assist with inventory, pricing and marketing of all products for the equipment issue desk and Pro Shop.
Plan and assist with monthly members appreciation events.
Instruct three PEL (Physical Activity) courses per each 8-week sessions.
Intern - Youth Programs Camps
Marshall University Campus Recreation is excited to offer an internship program for students interested in pursuing a career in the Campus Recreation industry. Our program is aimed at students that are juniors, seniors or master’s level that need class credit or experience before searching for a graduate assistantship or seeking full time employment.
Campus Recreation Interns will be given experience similar to graduate assistants and looked at as professional staff while working for our department. Expectations will include:
Program development and oversight
Student staff development and oversight
Project development and execution
Finance management and budgeting
Staff meeting attendance and input
Two paid youth camp summer internships will be offered with a $500 monthly stipend, meal plan and housing included for time worked for Campus Recreation.
