University Recreation at Western Michigan University is looking for a motivated, team oriented individual to fill our open position of Associate Director for Facilities and Programs. The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee the daily operations of our 240,000 square foot Student Recreation Center. The successful candidate will supervise two assistant directors (Intramural Sports, Fitness & Wellness), a graduate assistant, and nearly 100 facility student staff. Summary of Major Duties
Oversees the daily operations of the Student Recreation Center, including the management and security of buildings and facilities.
Directs the daily operations of the Student Recreation Center; Develops and maintains employee operational guidelines, procedures and handbooks; Resolves personnel problems and operational issues.
Oversees operations within the Student Recreation Center including adherence to and implementation of policies and procedures, service delivery, building maintenance and security, and programming.
Develops and monitors risk management procedures, protocols and training to minimize University exposure to legal liability; Addresses compliance with national guidelines, University and departmental policies, and accepted risk management practices.
Develops purchasing and budget recommendations for department programs and operations.
Serves as a member of the departmental leadership team to assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services.
Serves as a member of the Health and Human Services emergency teams for campus.
Assists the Director in short- and long-term planning, development and assessment of programs and services.
Maintains departmental web pages and manages social media outreach.
Supervises full time staff and student employees.
Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution
Three years relevant professional experience
First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Willing to participate in blood-borne pathogen training on campus
Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekend and holiday rotation
Experience in the administration of one or more of the following: fitness/wellness, facilities operations or sports and leisure activities
Experience in public speaking
Experience in web page design or maintenance
Thorough knowledge of national, industry and local guidelines and of currently accepted theory and practice in fitness, wellness, sports programming and event management
