This position is responsible for the coordination, administration and supervision of assigned programs/administrative operations of Pacific Recreation at the University of the Pacific. The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for providing leadership to staff, development of programs/services/operations, serve as a member of the Pacific Recreation leadership team and assist with department and division wide duties as assigned. Areas of responsibilities can include Competitive Sports, Marketing, Membership Services, Facility Operations, Outdoor Adventures and Fitness and Wellbeing. GA’s will be able to request areas of responsibilities each year. This is designed to produce a well-rounded professional and personalize the GA experience. The position will also have responsibilities within the Health Exercise and Sport Sciences (HESP) Department as a teaching assistant.
Provides direct supervision and direction to others in the development and management of assigned program areas, services and/or operations units.
Responsible for direct supervision, hiring, training and evaluation of employees including students and temp/casual employees in entry level, supervisor, personal trainer and instructor roles.
Plans, develops, teaches and leads staff training and development programs for assigned areas.
Makes management decisions ensuring the day-to-day of assigned areas are conducted in accordance with established rules and regulations; recommends and implements changes to established rules and regulations
Participates in, identifies and builds collaborative partnerships within the University of the Pacific Campus including within Student Life, Intercollegiate Athletics and Academia.
Areas of Emphasis:
Competitive Sports – Supervision and management of the Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs programs.
Marketing – Manage Pacific Recreation’s marketing team, social media platforms and marketing collateral.
Membership Services – Manage all membership services for the department including communication, price points and member interactions.
Facility Operations – Manage Recreation Staff including training, scheduling and mentoring. Schedule all recreation facilities and ensure facilities are properly maintained.
Outdoor Adventures – Manage the Tiger Escapes program of 10-12 experiential learning trips offer per year.
Fitness and Wellbeing – Manage the Group Fitness (Tiger X), Personal Training (Tiger Training) and wellbeing programs.
Health, Exercise and Sport Sciences Department (HESP):
Teaching Assistant (TA) duties within the HESP undergraduate program. Each semester you will partner with a HESP faculty member (according to your skills/interests) and provide TA support for their undergraduate classes.
TA tasks may include class material preparation, proctoring services, grading, in-class support and others as assigned by your faculty members. Regularly TA classes include, Introduction to Sports Management, Sports Marketing & Promotions, Managing Sport Enterprises, Sports Econ & Finance & Sport Law.

Bachelor’s degree with an overall 3.0 GPA and a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 units of completed coursework.
Acceptance into the University of the Pacific’s Health, Exercise & Sports Sciences Graduate Program.
Supervision or leadership of collegiate campus recreation program area.
Strong knowledge and experience with leading or managing and developing student employees.
Experience with campus recreation software systems or marketing/design software systems.
Must consistently demonstrate good judgment and decision-making abilities.
Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
Additional Salary Information: A stipend of $12,960.00 for employment from Mid-August through Mid-May is included along with the opportunity for summer employment through Pacific Recreation. A full tuition waiver through HESP is valid for both in state and out of state tuition. Professional development assistance is typically available.
