The primary responsibility of this position is providing creative group fitness programming, including the design, delivery and assessment of group sessions in varied formats including strength, cardio, dance, water, cycling, yoga, and Pilates. The position is responsible for group fitness personnel (45 session leaders, program assistants, and a full time coordinator), along with aspects of the budget and risk management. The Fitness/Wellness program unit includes a Program Director, three Assistant Directors, and Graduate Assistants who work collaboratively to deliver over 80 group fitness sessions weekly, 2,000 personal training sessions annually, and over 1.5 million participations in self-directed fitness activities each year. We are seeking team members who are committed to a student development philosophy for staff and participants in these ways: designing programs that encourage participants to develop and maintain active, healthy lifestyles regardless of skill, fitness, or experience levels; and, effectively training and mentoring employees so that they provide excellent programs and services for all participants. Included in training and mentoring is helping student staff recognize the ways in which they are acquiring transferable life skills. Salary range is $47,400 to 53,000. Master's degree in exercise science, recreation, sport management or related field required. Minimum of two years’ full-time experience with structured health/fitness programming required; experience in a higher education setting desirable. Personnel management and experience in training group exercise leaders required. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are essential. Proficiency with computer software, including word-processing, spreadsheets, and calendar/task management is required.
Certifications: American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist and a nationally recognized certification in group exercise and yoga strongly preferred. Standard First Aid, CPR/AED, Preventing Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions certifications must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
