NC State University is seeking an energetic, innovative, student-centered leader for the position of Wellness and Recreation Assistant Director of Training, Development and External Relations. We seek an individual with proven leadership experience capable of working in a fast-paced, results-oriented team. The candidate will empower student and professional staff to cultivate world-class recreation programs, services and facilities that promote and enhance student success inside and outside of the classroom.
The Assistant Director of Training, Development and External Relations is responsible for the leadership and management of Wellness and Recreation staff training and development program, member services, marketing partnership/sponsorship programs, and Wellness and Recreation student staff alumni relations. The candidate will identify and develop alternate revenue streams and add value to the student experience through special events and activities.
Specific responsibilities include:
Provide leadership and direction for Wellness and Recreation staff training and development program, member services, marketing partnerships/sponsorships program, and Wellness and Recreation student staff alumni relations by implementing goals, expectations and processes for programs and revenues.
Assist with assessment and evaluation efforts; develop recommendations and implement new programs and activities.
Provide strategic leadership and supervise the Coordinator, Member Services and Administrative Support Specialist; indirectly supervise approximately 40 student staff. Ensure staff provides the highest level of customer service for students and members.
Manage Wellness and Recreation student staff training and development program that includes recruitment, hiring, orientation/on-boarding and on-going training and student development. Wellness and Recreation employs approximately 650 student staff throughout the year.
Provide leadership to Carmichael Complex Member Services which includes developing recruitment and retention strategies, building relationships with Centennial affiliates, new member marketing materials, promotions, tours, orientations, satisfaction surveys, and member special events. Annual membership and related revenues exceed $800k.
Design and execute strategic marketing partnership/sponsorship programs. Collaborate with marketing partners to execute marketing packages.
Develop high-quality marketing materials to promote memberships, marketing partnership/sponsorship, and fundraising opportunities.
Develop and strengthen relationships with Wellness and Recreation student staff alumni.
Responsible for specific and direct fiscal management of Wellness and Recreation staff training and development program, student professional development fund, member services, and marketing partnership/sponsorship programs.
Assist as needed in all required departmental functions.
Master’s degree in higher education administration, recreation, business administration, marketing or a related field. If in progress – must be completed within 90 days of hire.
At least two years of professional experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, TRAINING/EDUCATION
At least two years of professional experience leading staff training and development programs.
Experience leading teams and managing professional staff.

Demonstrated experience organizing and developing leaders through practical application and learning.
Demonstrated success managing, supervising and mentoring student employees.
Demonstrated integrity, ethics, and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
