The Department of Campus Recreation at East Tennessee State University is seeking three (3) graduate assistants for the following areas: Operations and Aquatics, Business Operations, and Sport Programs. The goal of our graduate assistantship program is to foster the development of up-and-coming recreational professionals by immersing them in a hands-on recreational facility. Graduate Assistants will gain knowledge in their primary program area, as well as student employee management and development, leadership theory, and risk management.

Bachelor’s Degree and acceptance into an ETSU Graduate Program; One (1) year of experience working in collegiate recreation department, recreational program or related; Current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid or ability to obtain during first 30 days of employment
Payment & Compensation
Tuition waiver (eligible for both in-state/out of state students); Minimum Stipend of $7,800 for academic year; Funding for professional development including NIRSA sponsored state, regional, and national events and conferences; Opportunity for hourly summer employment.
Reporting to the Coordinator of Operations and Aquatics, the Operations and Aquatics Graduate Assistant will assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of Campus Recreation Aquatics programs and assisting in Operations including special events and activities.
Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of Aquatics and Special Event Staff
Support the Coordinator of Operations and Aquatics with scheduling staff for all regular facility hours, programming and special events (including nights, weekends, and holidays)
Assist with semester and monthly in-service trainings
Contribute to the development and implementation of all emergency action plan procedures
Maintain and update social media, program boards, and website information within departmental and University standards and assist with creation of print publications to promote Aquatics events
Collaborate with campus partners to schedule and setup special events and reservations
Maintain paperwork, spreadsheets, filing, and participation counts with regards to Aquatic Programs
Participate in teaching Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR classes for the campus and community
Assist in monitoring staff certifications, monthly CPR checks and other record keeping.
Reporting to the Office Coordinator of Campus Recreation, the Business Operations Graduate Assistant will assist in the overall business operations and facility management of the Center for Physical Activity.
Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of Member Services and Reception student staff that focus on providing customer service, cash handling, point-of-sale transactions, and access control for the Basler Center for Physical Activity (CPA)
Assist with updating and implementing current programs, products, and services in Fusion Recreation Management Software and online portal
Provide technology support to department in management of Fusion Recreation Management Software to insure memberships, access, and sales are configured accurately
Enforce access and membership policies and provide support to student staff in implementing policies to current patrons
Assist with the marketing and promotion of Campus Recreation programs and services to the campus community
Provide supervision for Campus Recreation facilities during Open Recreation, Intramural Sports, Sports Club practices, Special Events, Member Services Desk, Equipment Check Out and Instructional Programs as needed
Provide assistance when facility reservations or Campus Recreation programs any needed equipment setups prior to scheduled events and clean up at the conclusion of all event
Assist student staff with any emergencies by assisting with the completion of accident and incident reports immediately following injury or incident
Other duties as assigned
Experience with When to Work online scheduling software, Fusion Software, and Microsoft Office
Experience in Customer Service and Cash Handling

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Sport Programs, the Sport Programs Graduate Assistant will assist with the comprehensive planning and coordination of a comprehensive Intramural Sports and Sports Club program. ETSU has two (2) Sport Programs Graduate Assistants. For 2019-2020, we are seeking to hire one (1) graduate assistant in Sport Programs.
Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of intramural staff including officials, program assistants, and supervisors
Assist in officials’ clinics, training and evaluation for flag football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, and softball
Assist in administrative functions for the intramural program including: overseeing IMLeagues, league and tournament scheduling, and conducting assessments and evaluations
Collaborates with fellow Sport Programs Graduate Assistant in planning and managing intramural special events including: kickball, dodgeball, inner tube water polo, wallyball, and ultimate
Supervises assigned sport club teams and assists in maintaining a master schedule of activities for club sport program
Supervises home competitions and assist clubs with completion of travel and roster paperwork
Assists in advising clubs and club officers by coordinating and conducting training programs
Maintain and update social media, program boards, and website information within departmental and University standards and assist with creation of print publications to promote Sport Programs events
One (1) year of experience as an undergraduate intramural or sport club staff member
Officiating experience at recreational/intramural level required; experience at the high school level or higher preferred
Experience with training intramural officials
