The coordinator is responsible for planning, organization, supervision and assessment of assigned group fitness, personal training and Fitness Center operations including student team members. The coordinator also plans, assesses, and coordinates assigned special events, and well-being programs. This position leads and facilitates instructional programs such as Group Fitness Instructor Training Class or Train to be a Trainer. The Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation/ Fitness and Aquatics.
N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
One year of fitness programming experience
Experience in leading and developing Group Fitness classes or small group training
Supervisory or related transferable skills
Ability to delegate tasks as appropriate
Effective communication skills
Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
Master’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Science/Physiology or related field
Personal Training experience and related certification (ACE, ACSM, NASM)
Graduate Assistant experience in collegiate recreation programming
2 years of direct experience with:
Student personnel supervision at the collegiate recreation level
Implementation and management of group fitness programs, personal training and well-being programs
Management and supervision of all related fitness equipment and spaces
Leading a variety of group fitness classes (beat-driven, cycle, functional training, etc.)
Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position:
American Red Cross Instructor training for First Aid, CPR/AED, Blood borne Pathogen*
ACE Certification (Primary Group Fitness)*
ACE Personal Training Certification*
American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification*
*May become obtained after hire
