Florida State University is seeking a dynamic, innovative and student development-centered individual for the position of Outdoor Pursuits and Camp Coordinator.
The successful candidate will provide shared leadership for a comprehensive university-wide recreational program designed for more than 50,000 students, faculty, and staff, and will assist with cultivating and delivering the departmental brand to the entire community. They will also cultivate an environment that values inclusiveness and diversity, engage in evidence-based decision-making, and promote student development and learning. Serves as Coordinator for Outdoor Pursuits and Camp Flastacowo. Develops and administers the Outdoor Pursuits program and is responsible for the year-round design, implementation, and leadership of diverse and comprehensive adventure trips and programs. This includes program development, budget management, equipment purchasing, trip planning, maintenance, inventory, personnel management, and risk management. Serves as a resource to the community for outdoor programming. Coordinates custom trips for students, faculty, staff, and the community. Researches areas of interest and oversees trip planning, marketing, risk management, and staffing for potential international trips.
Provide overall coordination and supervision of Camp Flastacowo program to include program development, policies and procedure development, inventory, budget management, and risk management. Plans, schedules and supervises camp programs and activities based on American Camp Association (ACA) Accreditation standards, which includes offsite day trips. Develops learning outcomes for programming and assesses for current success and future program enhancements.
Oversees recruitment, selection, hiring, training, and evaluation of all Outdoor Pursuits and Camp Flastacowo staff.
Develop and administers the annual budget for Outdoor Pursuits and Camp Flastacowo, projecting revenue, tracking, payroll expenditures, and line item expenses. Responsible for inventory control, purchasing, invoicing, ordering, and receiving of equipment and supplies. Implements and maintains cash handling policies and procedures in compliance with University Controller’s office. Responsible for receipts and deposits for the Outdoor Pursuits program. Prepare and reconcile daily and monthly cash deposits and reports per FSU Controller’s guidelines.
Develop and coordinate marketing for the Outdoor Pursuits and Camp Flastacowo. Responsible for collaborating with colleagues and other departments for improvement and integration of outdoor programs and other programs sponsored at the Reservation facilities.
Assists in other departmental activities and experiential educational programming at the FSU Reservation.
Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Recreation/Leisure Administration or related field and 2 years professional experience in outdoor programming.
Current certification in Wilderness First Aid and CPR from a national recognized organization.
Ability to become certified in Wilderness First Responder and CPR – Professional Rescuer within the first year of hire.
Master's degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Recreation/Leisure Administration or related field.
Experience coordinating and leading adventure trips.
Experience in outdoor or adventure-based summer camp programming.
