Under the general supervision of the Campus Recreation Director serve as the Director for the Campus Recreation Class and Youth Programs involving approximately 50 classes per quarter/200 scheduled classes per year and approximately 50 custom classes per year in and around the UCI campus. In addition the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the Recreational Sports Camps and Summer Swim Program servicing over 400 student, staff and community youth. The Class and Youth Programs Director is responsible for all aspects of the position including hiring and scheduling instructors, approving curriculum, setting schedule and fees and enrollment and growing the program by developing new recreation class and camp opportunities. Required: Bachelors Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or related degree and 3-5 years of equivalent experience or combination of education and experience. Demonstrated skills to work independently to develop program objectives and methodology in attaining those objectives. Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Effective interpersonal skills to interact with students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, peers and the general public. Demonstrated ability to make informative presentations to a variety of groups. Skill in interviewing prospective employees to assess interest, knowledge, and experience appropriate for the position. Excellent customer service skills and ability to negotiate services. Demonstrated supervisory skills. Proficiency in the use of personal computers. Strong organizational skills, which include the ability to be precise, thorough, and detail-oriented. Skill to effectively write letters, memos, proposals, and other documents related to the programs. Ability to interpret university and department policies and procedures with regard to utilization of staffing and programming. Creative skills to identify and solve problems. Financial skill to develop, manage and control budgets. Ability to work as both a leader and a member of a team. Successful experience overseeing the daily operation of a youth day camp program. Basic First Aid and CPR certification. Water Safety Instructor certified. Desired: Experience working in a campus recreation environment.
