The Associate Director for Business Operations and Strategic Planning will be responsible for the development and execution of short and long-term planning associated with revenue streams, including identifying new opportunities while maximizing existing student service fee funds. This position will contribute to the department’s overall leadership, decision making, policy development, vision, mission, and strategic planning. This position serves as a lead professional in analyzing and enhancing the departmental culture of seeking and cultivating entrepreneurial enterprise within self-generated income. The Associate Director will report to the Director of Recreation and Wellness and will serve on the Senior Leadership Team.
Strategic Business Planning and Assessment (50%)
Lead the development and enhancement of the departmental culture of seeking and cultivating entrepreneurial enterprise within self-generated income by building and empowering effective work teams
Analyze and provide strategic direction for financial growth by leveraging department strengths and identifying avenues of opportunity for future revenue generation
Assess and evaluate current business practices, aspirational goals, and objectives to guide departmental priorities
Enhance the entrepreneurial and strategic planning process to develop department-wide collaborations and support leading to actionable outcomes
Develop networks and cultivate relationships that satisfy the department’s mission and meet revenue goals; use expert relationship-building skills to identify and cultivate new strategic partners and manage current relationships
Collaborate with department managers to establish revenue generation goals and initiatives
Oversee department data collection tools and methodologies geared towards assessing business practices and participant satisfaction; collaborate with managers to ensure RecWell is meeting the needs of participants, the mission of the department, and of the University
Responsible for developing annual budgets for marketing, communications, information technology, youth programs, and external relations; monitor expenses and identify efficiencies and effectiveness in program delivery
Develop a long-term fiscal strategy and forecast, in collaboration with the department’s Finance Manager, considering market trends and variables and unique factors impacting higher education and campus
Work with the department’s Financial Services Team to ensure processes and procedures for budgets are aligned for productivity and long-term fiscal strategies
Supervise staff aligned with business operations (8.0 FTE, 4.0 direct and 4.0 indirect)
Responsible for oversight and generation of revenue through, marketing, partnerships, grants, alumni relations, and youth programming
Oversee Information Technology Services Supervisor, ensuring strategic long and short range planning for department hardware and software
Develop and maintain an inclusive environment consistent with departmental, division and institutional missions
Support Office for Student Affairs’ Strategic Goals of Wellbeing, Advocacy, Impact and Engagement
Serving on Student Affairs and University-wide committees and work teams
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreation and Wellness.
BA/BS with six (6) years of relevant experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal ten (10) years.

Able to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and projects simultaneously and resourcefully with exceptional attention to detail.
Successful experience supervising individuals and teams, including managing, mentoring and developing staff.
Naturally takes initiative and is able to work independently, collaboratively, and as part of a successful team.
Strong aptitude and skills in managing, analyzing, and evaluating data and goals. Able to think strategically about data and effectively organize and present data to partners internal and external to the university.
Masters degree strongly preferred.
Proficiency in presentation, writing, and data management programs.
Tangible experience establishing and cultivating relationships with individuals and corporations, actively seeking to deepen existing and forge new relationships.
Experience fostering an inclusive environment and appreciative of differences in the workplace.
Familiarity with collegiate recreation and its importance to the holistic experience of the campus community and campus success.
Possesses an understanding and appreciation of the importance of technological applications for effectiveness and efficiency.
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing innovative practices which accentuate business operations and strategic initiatives designed to supplement existing revenue sources.
