Campus Recreation & Wellness provides quality recreational and educational experiences designed to positively impact the development of Elon students and contribute to the wellness of the campus community. The associate director is an essential member of the Campus Recreation & Wellness professional team and provides leadership to one coordinator and a graduate apprentice, plays an integral role in the communication and delivery of a campus-wide wellness initiative, and assists the director in department administration and strategic planning.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Create and maintain a culture that supports and promotes the overall wellness of Elon students, faculty, and staff
Oversee departmental and campus-wide marketing and communication around wellness promotion and education, including websites, print/social media, press releases, etc.
Work collaboratively with colleagues in Campus Recreation & Wellness, the Division of Student Life, and across Elon University to provide quality recreational, wellness, and developmental experiences for students
Supervise and evaluate a coordinator and graduate apprentice, as well as student employees in areas of oversight
Oversee the training and development of student peer health and wellness educators
Serve on the campus wellness initiative leadership team
Develop outreach strategies for student groups and coordinate incoming requests from groups for educational programs
Facilitate and instruct small and large group workshops, seminars, and academic classes, as requested, around a variety of wellness topics
Determine appropriate approaches, trends, and best practices related to evidence-based wellness initiatives and programs
Identify and work with faculty partners to develop curricular and co-curricular educational opportunities to advance student wellness and well-being
Collaborate with the associate director of recreation to develop and oversee the department assessment plan
Assist the director in the development and administration of department strategic plan, budgets, and assessment projects
Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive environment in all programs and facilities
Foster positive relationships on and off campus to promote Campus Recreation & Wellness
Serve on departmental, divisional, and institutional committees and work groups as assigned
Assist in the development and implementation of the Campus Recreation & Wellness strategic plan and departmental/divisional/institutional priorities
Serve as a Student Life administrator on call and assist with divisional events as assigned
May include occasional evening and weekend work requirements
Other duties and projects as assigned
Completed master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, or related field and at least 3-5 years of progressive post-master’s experience in wellness, health promotion, or a related functional area in higher education
Other important skills and experiences for success include:
Valid driver’s license (required)
Certified as a Health Education Specialist and/or Wellness Practitioner (preferred)
Experience supervising professional staff (preferred)
