Florida State University is seeking a dynamic, innovative and student development-centered individual for the position of Assistant Director, Rez Operations & Special Events. This position will oversee and manage facility operations at the FSU Reservation, which is our lakefront property located approximately 4 miles south of the main campus.
The successful candidate will provide shared leadership for a comprehensive university-wide recreational program designed for more than 50,000 students, faculty, and staff, and will assist with cultivating and delivering the departmental brand to the entire community. They will also cultivate an environment that values inclusiveness and diversity, engage in evidence-based decision-making, and promote student development and learning. Serves as Assistant Director for Campus Recreation overseeing the FSU Reservation facility. Provides overall direction, administration and management of facility rentals and space usage at the FSU Reservation to include the waterfront, retreat center, picnic shelters, cabin rentals and special events. Responsible for program and policy development, financial management, marketing, equipment purchasing and inventory control, personnel management and risk management for a multifaceted outdoor recreational facility. Assesses current facility operations and daily maintenance needs. Evaluates and recommends changes as needed. Works closely with Facilities Superintendent on facility upgrades, improvement projects, and the contacting of vendors for bids.
Coordinates the planning and implementation of collaborative large-scale special events and student programming for the division. Serves as main point of contact for events and coordinates staffing. Establishes and monitors event timelines and works closely with vendors on logistics, rental equipment, and catering for events. Works with marketing staff on marketing strategies, including announcements and notifications, and promotional materials. Develops budget for events and may identify sponsorships opportunities.
Oversees recruitment, selection, hiring, training, and evaluation of the Aquatic Coordinator and guest services staff. Assists with the daily oversight, supervision, and development of the waterfront operation and lifeguards at the FSU Reservation.
Provides risk management and prevention oversight for facility and program area. Conducts and reviews facility safety audits, reviews accident/incident reporting and coordinates emergency response planning and training. Assists with the training of staff in all areas of risk management for Campus Recreation programs and facilities. Serves on the Campus Recreation Risk Management Committee.
Develops and administers the annual facility budget for the FSU Reservation. Develops and tracks OPS, expense, and revenue. Responsible for inventory control, purchasing, invoicing, ordering, and receiving of equipment and supplies. Implements and maintains cash handling policies and procedures in compliance with University Controller's office. Responsible for receipts and deposits for the Reservation programs and facility rentals. Prepare and reconcile daily and monthly cash deposits and reports per FSU controller guidelines.
Serves on various University, Divisional, and Campus Recreation committees and assist in other departmental activities.
Master's degree in Recreation, Leisure Administration, Sport Management, or related field with two years of experience.
Current Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid Certification from a nationally recognized organization.
Ability to become Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid Instructor certified within 6 months of hire.
Experience planning large-scale special events.
Experience in facility operations and space rental of a lakefront property.
Recreational risk management experience.
