Maine Bound is the outdoor program of Campus Recreation at the University of Maine and offers a full complement of activities in the areas of outdoor education and recreation, wilderness pursuits, and the development of skills necessary to enjoy and feel comfortable in the outdoor environment. Programs and services encompass a wide range of outdoor adventure courses, academic courses, equipment rental, a challenge course and an indoor climbing center. Programs are open to all University of Maine students, the campus community and to the general public. Maine Bound also provides educational outreach programs to other organizations and institutions. The position participates in a team management atmosphere involving the Director of Campus Recreation, Associate Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director for Maine Bound and student employees. In consultation with the Assistant Director for Maine Bound, the Coordinator develops, teaches and leads outdoor education and recreation programs and activities, develops and implements outdoor recreation and education special events and appropriate Maine Bound staff training.
*Bachelor's Degree in Outdoor Recreation, education or related field required *Wilderness First Responder Required *1-2 years professional, in the field outdoor leadership experience required. Two years of a related graduate assistantship may be substituted for one year *Demonstrated student-client centered philosophy and approach.*Additional training/certification at the instructor level through organizations such as the American Canoe Association, American Mountain Guides Association, Wilderness Education Association, and Project Adventure is preferred.
