POSITION DESCRIPTION: Full-time professional exempt staff position with full benefits. The Assistant Director for Risk Management has responsibility for managing and supervising the department’s risk management program. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and facilitating standardized safety programs in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American Red Cross, and UMD Department of Environmental Safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Specific responsibilities include providing support to departmental personnel in the creation of risk management plans and risk management practices for various functional areas, managing the American Red Cross provider agreements for the department, hiring, training, supervising, and developing 12-15 Safety Skills Auditors, and conducting regular assessments of department emergency preparedness and response plans (EAP’s) and policies.
START DATE: July 1, 2019 preferred.
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience, the range is $65,000-$75,000

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have, as a minimum: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, three (3) years of professional experience in a recreation setting, working knowledge/prior experience with risk management. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to coordinate and complete projects working with people from different functional areas. American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Pro Instructor certification. Preferred Master’s degree from an accredited institution in recreation, sports administration, student personnel administration, or related field. American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid for Professional Rescuers Instructor Trainer/ Lifeguard Instructor Trainer. Professional experience in a collegiate recreation setting. Experience with program registration management software (for example, CSI, Fusion, Formsite, etc.).
