Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) offers important health, safety and wellness benefits to the Carmel community. As part of the CCPR team, the Aquatics Program Supervisor will develop compelling aquatics programs. They will lead a motivated, dedicated aquatics programming staff to achieve the highest customer improvement and satisfaction. This position directly manages the swim lessons program at the 146,000 sq. ft. Monon Community Center serving over 4,000 participants each year. They will lead the American Red Cross Training Programs offered throughout the year, which prepares participants for important roles throughout the community.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead + Train. Engage with your team of 30 part-time employees regularly. Manage the hiring process, scheduling, training, day-to-day operations and troubleshooting problems. Develop a comprehensive plan to set your staff up for success and evaluate their performance.
Engage. Be an advocate for our organization by communicating regularly with guests and staff. Be the backbone of your team and get them excited about promoting aquatics and directly impacting our guests. Be ready to answer, relay and respond to internal and external inquiries.
Analyze + Evolve. Be the aquatics expert on our department-wide team. Regularly analyze the attitudes and interests of users/non-users in conjunction with industry trends to prepare for further development of aquatics programs.
Collaborate. As part of the recreation team, you will work with our recreation programmers to brainstorm, share ideas and bring gold-standard recreational opportunities to the Carmel community.
What we are looking for in our Aquatics Program Supervisor
Aquatics Expertise. You have Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor certifications and experience.
Communication Skills. You enjoy getting out of your seat and interacting with others. You can speak clearly to individuals and groups including internal staff, guests and the public as an advocate for the Department. You’re comfortable presenting and executing staff training.
Multi-tasking. You can manage multiple projects and people at one time under controlled deadlines. You can compile, review, classify, prioritize, analyze and present data and findings.
Reliability. You are trustworthy and you perform well consistently. You’re organized and capable of directing others.
Team Mentality. All hands-on deck is your motto. You seek to help out where you are needed and enjoy working with others.
Passion. You truly love aquatics and you find purpose in your daily responsibilities. You project the mission and vision of Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation. You know you are in the right work environment and doing a job that is meaningful.
The Must Haves
Bachelor’s degree in recreation or a related field.
Two (2) years staff supervisory experience.
Prior experience as a lifeguard.
Prior experience as a swim instructor.
Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.

Experience managing aquatics programs.
LGI certification (Lifeguard Instructor).
WSI certification (Water Safety Instructor).
CPRP (Certified Parks and Recreation Professional).
