University Recreation (UREC) at James Madison University is accepting applications for a Coordinator of Sport Clubs and Inclusive Recreation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision: As assigned by the Assistant Director, recruit, hire and manage a diverse student staff including recreation assistants, recreation mangers, sport club executives and other inclusive recreation staff as assigned. Establish learning outcomes based upon student development principles and staff needs. Design appropriate interventions and conduct assessments for all trainings. Develop students on hard and soft skills focusing on creating a welcoming environment within the philosophy of UREC’s mission and service ethic. Evaluate all staff on a regular basis using observation, and peer review. When assigned by the Assistant Director, provide leadership and mentoring for a graduate assistant establishing schedules, expectations, and conducting regular meetings and evaluations.
Programming: Inclusive Recreation In collaboration with the Assistant Director, plan, implement and coordinate year round inclusive recreation offerings for the department including the management of a comprehensive informal recreation program. Plan and implement offerings in non-traditional sports, adaptive recreation and department-wide special events designed to attract participants from across the spectrum of the JMU community. Establish learning outcomes based upon identified student needs, design appropriate interventions, and conduct assessments for all programs. For all areas, provide professional staff oversight including an average of two hours per week of supervision year round.
Programming: Sport Clubs As assigned by the Assistant Director, execute selected components of an innovative and comprehensive sport club program to meet the needs of a diverse set of skills and interests within the confines of University Recreation values and programming philosophy. Establish learning outcomes based upon identified student needs, design appropriate interventions, and conduct assessments for all programs. Provide professional staff oversight for all sport club programming including an average of two hours per week in the sport clubs area.
Administration: Works with the Assistant Director to manage fiscal resources of all sport clubs and inclusive recreation to make recommendations for purchasing of equipment and supplies. Maintain an inventory management system. As assigned by the Assistant Director, works with the Payroll and Budget Manager on student employment contracts, personnel records, and approving payroll as it pertains to sport clubs and inclusive recreation student staff. Maintain filing and record keeping system for all operations
Risk Management: Works with the Assistant Director to administer the risk management plan of all sport clubs and inclusive recreation programs. Manage all appropriate documents including assumption of risk and medical information within the confines of JMU policies and procedures. In collaboration with the Assistant Director, develop and recommend policies and procedures related to all sport clubs and inclusive recreation programs. As assigned, work with the Associate Director for Facilities and Assistant Director for Reservations, and Assistant Director of Intramural Sports and Youth Programs as a team to schedule indoor and outdoor spaces for all programming as part of a collaborative scheduling process.
Collaboration: Be a collaborative player on the programming unit to develop innovative programming and services that reach beyond each individual program area to fill the gaps to achieve the goal of 100% participation in University Recreation facilities, programs, and services. Works with the Technology Manger, Assistant Director for Marketing and Social Media, and Assistant Director for Member Services as assigned. Works with all other UREC Facilities and Operations staff to maintain and operate all UREC facilities utilized by sport clubs and inclusive recreation. Be a part of the weekday evening supervision team to provide student mentoring at all UREC facilities on a rotating basis. Maintains an active role in departmental, division, and university committees as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management or other related field of study required. One year full time or two years as a graduate assistant of relevant experience required. Master’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management or other related field of study preferred. Experience supervising student employees, sport club programming, and inclusive and informal recreation programming preferred. Strong collaboration and communication skills preferred.
