The Intramurals Manager oversees a comprehensive Intramurals program for UW Recreation, which includes oversight and supervision of approximately 10 intramural sports activities per quarter. They will develop and implement policies and procedures for all program operations in accordance with department, university, and applicable sport rules. They recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise approximately 85 temporary staff. They will create, develop, and maintain a comprehensive intramural Officials Development program, as well as plan and allocate budgeted resources.

Recruit, hire, train, and supervise the intramural officials and program assistant temporary employee staff of approximately 85.
Ensure employees have proper up-to-date training certifications for specific sport programs and first aid administration, as well as all department-mandated training.
Process semimonthly payroll in accordance with department and University policy and procedures.
Manage employees and schedules to meet University student and temporary employee requirements.
Perform an annual audit of the Intramurals program to evaluate and analyze based on the Department’s strategic plan and goals.
Maintain oversight of a comprehensive Intramurals program in accordance with the Intramurals Handbook to ensure compliance.
Plan and implement the Intramurals program, including: scheduling, marketing, registration, facility reservation, policy enforcement, program and equipment evaluation, assessment, quarterly/annual reporting, program development, student development, and interdepartmental networking.
Develop and implement trainings and meetings with temporary staff on major policy and procedure topics of concern, including: facility management, equipment needs, risk management, emergency response, scheduling, and sport-specific rules.
Establish and implement the Intramurals Handbook policies and procedures, reviewing annually to update for program and process improvement.
Evaluate new Intramurals program requests to determine their viability and compatibility with the department before adding them as new activities.
Establish and implement sport-specific risk management practices, policies, and procedures.
Compile quarterly and annual statistical program data for department reports.
Serve as the departmental resource on Intramurals programming-related questions.
Design, plan, and sustain a comprehensive sports officials development program; including coordination of recruitment, hiring, training, development, corrective action, and retention of sports officials for all team/league sports as well as other leagues and special events.
Initiate and maintain collaborative efforts with local/regional referee associations, organizations, and/or local sports officials to assist in education, skills training, and assessment of all UW intramural officials.
Plan and lead all new official orientation sessions.
Coordinate and conduct pre-season workshops/seminars/trainings for all officials.
Conduct continual assessment and management of all sports officials through direct observation and supervision during evening/weekend intramural competition.
Conduct ongoing quarterly performance review of all officials, implementing corrective action where necessary.
Actively work to expand the program through marketing and outreach designed for recruitment and retention of highly-qualified individuals.
Maintain Intramurals program quarterly schedule for all on-going league games, tournaments, and special events.
Provide on-site event coordination for all Intramurals activities.
Monitor and arrange the use of Intramurals equipment throughout the year.
Supervise the operational activities at all of the department facilities and fields as needed. Work cooperatively with other members of the department in the interest of providing a comprehensive program designed to the meet the needs of the University community.
Establish and maintain professional relationships with other UW departments and sport-specific national governing bodies or associations.
Prepare an annual budget for the Intramurals program. Project expenditures in staffing, equipment, and contract services.
Manage the Intramurals budget and maintain internal control of all expenditures; ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance.
Evaluate Intramurals equipment needs and initiate purchases.
• Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred, in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field. • Two+-years’ experience in campus recreation. • Demonstrated experience in managing an Intramurals program and knowledge of sports programming. • Demonstrated experience in training officials. • Demonstrated experience supervising and training student staff. • Demonstrated strong communication skills. • Possess interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and colleagues. • Current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED. • Knowledge of scheduling and/or recreation management software (ex. Fusion, IMLeagues).
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
