The Recreational Sports Department Graduate Assistantship in Marketing provides an opportunity for creativity to flow through a variety of different avenues: graphic design, video design, social media, marketing, and photography through the mission and values of the department. It is Recreational Sports’ purpose to provide facilities, equipment, and opportunities for participation in a variety of sports, recreational, and social activities designed to accommodate all ages, skill levels, gender, and sports interests for the University community. The department is a part of the Division of Student Engagement and Success and is an institutional member of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association. Recreational Sports offers a number of programs in the areas of intramural sports, fitness and wellness, aquatics, sports clubs, outdoor adventure, and open recreation. The goal for the Marketing team with the graduate assistant as a leader is to exhibit and promote the lifestyle that Recreational Sports strives to demonstrate through its ethics and guiding principles.
Graduate Assistant Position Description:
The first year of the assistantship, the graduate assistant will become familiar with the programs, facilities, and events throughout the Recreational Sports Department. Graduate assistants are responsible for overseeing many different aspects of Rec Sports programs. They manage student staff, which includes hiring, training, development, and evaluation of programs, services, and personnel. Graduate assistants are expected to be highly involved in programs throughout the entire department, university, and community where collaboration is important.
Carries out recommendations/expectations of the Marketing Coordinator, as well as Assistant Director of Programs
Assists the Marketing Coordinator with the day-to-day operations of the program
This includes, but is not limited to:
Recruiting, hiring, training, assigning, monitoring, and evaluating personnel
Conducts staff meetings
Creates and administers schedules
Recommends purchasing and inventory of equipment and inventory
Assists with budget administration
Required to attend both student and professional staff meetings
Assists with all departmental events
Admission into a Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi Graduate Program is required
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Ability to excel in a dynamic and challenging atmosphere
Strong written and verbal communication skills
