This position will work collaboratively with another Assistant Director of Member Services to manage all areas of membership services including sales, equipment rental and member processes. You will manage a $250k student wage budget and provide direct supervision for 80 part-time student staff including shift managers, member services, equipment center and entry control staff. In addition, you will assist in the design, implementation, coordination and general supervision of the department’s customer service functions and oversee approximately $600k in program registrations, $155k in locker rentals, $1.2 million in membership sales and $22k in merchandise sales.
Provide oversight and leadership to approximately 80 part-time student staff including shift managers, member services, equipment center and entry control staff. Hire, train, supervise, evaluate and create a personal and professional development program for student staff. Utilize online scheduling software to manage staff availability and schedules. Work with student staff to create thoughtful continuing education content and lead educational topics at bi-weekly and monthly staff meetings and trainings. Develop and implement incentive programs for student employees. Conduct conflict mediation and recommend disciplinary action when necessary.
Develop and maintain operational and personnel budgets for assigned areas in accordance with departmental practices. Maintain appropriate equipment and merchandise inventory. Utilize software to manage operational components. Work collaboratively with business office to ensure that business functions employ best practices and are consistent with university standards.
Serve as a customer service representative for patron assistance and work to know and exceed their expectations, while applying Recreation & Wellness mission and values in all customer interactions.
Assist in the marketing and promotion of membership components. Administer and analyze surveys to assess patron satisfaction. Develop, assess and report on learning and administrative outcomes for student employees, participants and area operations. Maintain annual assessment document, tracking facility usage, member statistics, sales, equipment usage, program support and accomplishments.
Work collaboratively with other departments and University staff. Assist in the performance of non-scheduled work assignments upon notification and serve on assigned department and University committees. Involvement in staff training and special events.
Attend and contribute to department-wide, operational and professional staff meetings.
Continuously pursue professional development opportunities.
Master’s Degree required and one year experience in fitness, preferably in the collegiate setting.
Consideration will be given for additional experience in lieu of master’s degree.
Ability to manage all aspects of a comprehensive fitness program; Contribute to developing strategies and vision for a successful and innovative program.
Knowledge of risk management issues in fitness, specifically in collegiate recreation.
Must show ability to develop long and short-term goals consistent with the mission of the university, the division and the department.
Must show the ability to build, develop, and cultivate relationships across campus with a variety of constituents.
Demonstrated ability to supervise, manage, and develop student and part-time staff.
Successful candidate will be self-motivated, energetic, service minded and adept at solving problems.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents. Must possess strong communication (written/oral) as well as interpersonal skills.
Proficient at computer software (enterprise computing administration, word processing, spreadsheet, electronic communication, etc.).
Preferred areas of study include higher education, recreation and sports management, kinesiology or related field.
Knowledge of varied business functions and industry best practices in a collegiate recreation setting related to membership services including membership sales, merchandise sales and daily equipment rental.
