Coordinator, Competitive Sports, Camps, and Special Events
This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports.
Knowledgeable of all aspects of Club Sports with specific emphasis on student development, facilities, programs, and services;
Direct and facilitate student leadership through the Executive Council Club Sports (ECCS) and president’s council;
Serve as a liaison for club sport organizations;
Coordinate on and off campus facility reservations;
Maintain an updated club sport practice and competition schedule;
Assist in the development, allocation, and management of club sports budget;
Process club sport purchases and reimbursements;
Assist clubs with self-generated revenue through dues, donations, and fundraising;
Compile weekly post competition reports for upper administration and social media;
Coordinate and make arrangements for club sport travel;
Facilitate a tiered club sports model with shared governance;
Maintain an updated inventory of club sports equipment, supplies, and apparel;
Supervise club sport practices and competitions;
Monthly and annual budget reconciliations;
Assist in the return-to-play process for student athletes returning from injury;
Oversee hiring, evaluations, and training for all volunteer and paid club sport coaches;
Assist in the assessment of club sports;
Oversight and management of all related contracts;
Coordinate and provide approval of community service outreach;
Revise and maintain updated club sport policies, procedures, and participant manual;
Assist with Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid training for club safety officers and competitive sports staff;
Ensure incident/accident reports have been completed and entered into Connect2;
Ensure all club safety officers and competitive sport supervisors have up-to-date certifications;
Provide risk management and emergency action plan (EAP) training for club safety officers, competitive sports supervisors, and camp staff.
Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of wage employees and volunteers;
Assist in the development and administration of camp policies, procedures, and programmatic details;
Assist in the scheduling of camp staff;
Assist with registration, payment, and documentation of participants;
Assist in the maintenance of camp documents and medical information;
Ensure all risk management and emergency procedures are applied;
Provide first responder care for emergencies;
Assist in the scheduling of camp staff;
Assist in the marketing and promotion of camps;
Assist in the coordination of camp programming and coordination of contracted vendors.
Provide administrative coverage for the Competitive Sports office;
Assist with the marketing and promotion of intramural sports;
Assist in the training of intramural officials, program assistants, and competitive sports supervisors;
Assist in the evaluation of intramural officials, program assistants, and competitive sports supervisors.
Assist in the development and implementation of special events for competitive sports and Mason Recreation (i.e Rockin w/REC, Student-Faculty Golf Tournament, RA Olympics, Welcome to Mason, RecSensation, I-Week, Greek Week, etc.);
Collaborate with various on-campus departments;
Assist in the recruitment of sponsorships and donations.
Continue to develop professionally through membership and participation in applicable professional organizations and developmental workshops;
Provide students and staff with opportunities for professional development through various organizations, workshops, clinics, and extramural activities;
Coordinate with various on-campus departments to provide leadership workshops for students and staff;
Serve on Campus Committees pertinent to Competitive Sports, camps, and special events.
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Experience in a university/college recreational sports setting;
Extensive knowledge related of recreational programming and related rules and policies;
Ability to relate well to diverse individuals and demonstrate the ability to manage a large staff;
Ability to train, supervise, and motivate student leaders for the competitive sports and camp programs;
Ability to provide leadership and guidance to a diverse club sports program;
Ability to manage budgets;
Ability to foster a positive work environment and encourage collaboration and teamwork;
Commitment to making an active and meaningful contribution to the university’s well-being initiative;
Capable of lifting moderate loads and performing equipment set-ups for various recreational activities.
Master’s degree in recreation, physical education, sports management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Sports Officiating training and experience in one or more sports;
Computer software experience in competitive sports scheduling;
American Red Cross AED/CPR and First Aid certification; and
Experience with Microsoft Office Business.

Mason Recreation oversees three facilities on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University including the Recreation Athletic Complex (RAC), the Aquatic Fitness Center (AFC), and Skyline fitness center. We provide the following programs and services for the campus community: Fitness, Aquatics, Outdoor Adventures, Intramural Sports, Club Sports, the EDGE (team building programming), as well as a Summer Youth Camp.
