Budget Title: Staff Assistant (SL-2)
The Program Coordinator for Aquatics is responsible for administering the Aquatics program which includes recreational & lap swim, lessons, aquatic fitness and certification classes, managing the Lifeguard/WSI staff and safety operations for the East Gym pool and Recreation Center. This position will also assist with departmental facility operations and the facilitation of special events and summer programming.
Supervise the daily operations of the East Gym pool & aquatics program including staff supervision, inventory management, budgets and program development.
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate a Lifeguard/WSI staff of approximately 20 student staff members.
Procure and maintain program equipment, including preventative maintenance.
Monitor & evaluate programs through both formal and informal methods to identify areas in need of improvement and/or new programs to be added. Assist with the communication, outreach and marketing of all aquatic programs.
Communicate & interact with participants and staff to promote effective delivery of services and risk management compliance.
Instruct American Red Cross CPR/AED & First Aid, Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard certification classes as needed.
Instruct water based programs as required (i.e. swim lessons, aqua aerobics) and provide Individual Aquatics Personal Training services to high risk clientele
Ensure pool facilities are compliant with federal, state, and University health and safety regulations. Inspect facility for maintenance, janitorial and fire safety issues.
Assist with the implementation of facility policies and procedures including facility access, emergency action plans, audit team, and standard operating procedures.
Assist supervisor with the daily operations of the open recreation program
Assist with special events, group visits, and summer programming initiatives.
A Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management or related field is required
A minimum of 1 year post-graduate professional experience working in a collegiate/community recreation environment and/or supervising staff (graduate assistant experience is accepted)
Candidate must have or be willing to obtain American Red Cross CPR/AED, First Aid, Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Instructor certifications in order to assist with staff certifications, training needs and programming
Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, leadership, decision-making and customer service skills are essential, as well as the ability to work individually and in a team setting
Candidate must be open to a flexible work schedule including some evening and weekend obligations
The ability to effectively supervise and motivate employees, having knowledge of trends in aquatic programming and experience in developing creative program solutions are important
A Master's degree with 1-2 years professional experience in Recreation which has included staff supervision
National certification in aquatic exercise
Knowledge of current risk management practices in recreational facilities is helpful
