The Campus Recreation department at the University of Nebraska at Kearney has one graduate assistant position available for the start of the 2019 Fall Semester. Graduate assistant positions include a full tuition remission and stipend. Opportunity for summer hours available.
Seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic applicant to join our team. The OA and Climbing Wall GA will help provide experiential learning opportunities through the outdoor medium for a diverse university community. Assist in the management and supervision of the outdoor adventures program, the climbing wall, as well as assistance with the other areas within Campus Recreation. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
Assist in the utilization, operation, and maintenance of the climbing wall and other Campus Recreation facilities including administration, enforcement of policies and procedures, and overall daily operations.
Interview, hire, train and schedule student staff.
Assist in planning, promoting and supervising the Outdoor Adventure trips.
Assist in route setting, risk management policies, and equipment inspection.
Facilitate outside groups’ use of the climbing wall.
Manage a comprehensive risk management program and maintain a record keeping system for all areas within the program.
Work closely within the Campus Recreation program to assist in the development and administration of a diverse and successful program accessible to all students, faculty, and staff.
Requirements for Graduate Assistant Positions:
Admittance into a graduate program at UNK. Admittance requirements include a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75.
A passion for recreation/sports/healthy lifestyle.
Strong interpersonal skills
Desire to contribute to a growing recreation program.
Ability to stay organized and detail oriented.
Preferred qualifications for Graduate Assistant Positions:
Understanding of student development theory.
Experience with Microsoft Office and WhentoWork.
Experience with administration of recreation programs and ability to assist in other areas.
CPR/AED/First Aid certification
Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) certification, or ability to acquire within six months of hire date
Wilderness First Responder (WFR), or ability to acquire within one year of hire date
AMGA Single Pitch Instructor, or ability to acquire within one year of hire date.
