The Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness provides leadership and daily management of Campus Recreation’s fitness floor and associated programming across multiple facilities. This position has significant staff, administrative and operational responsibilities as part of a comprehensive fitness and wellness program. A vital component of this position is a strong commitment to team work, customer service, and staff development. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Contribute to the strategic plan for Fitness & Wellness and play a key role in determining the vision of the program.
Coordinate fitness floor staffing and programs at the Campus Recreation Center and Fitness Center at CARE/Crawley.
Hire, train, develop, supervise, schedule, evaluate and administer payroll for over 50 fitness floor staff (including entry level and supervisory staff).
Coordinate employee on-boarding and lead staff meetings.
Assist in hiring, training, supervision, evaluation, on-boarding and continued professional development of Personal Trainers and Registered Dietitians.
Assist in supervision and professional development of Fitness & Wellness Graduate Assistant.
Collaborate with Fitness & Wellness staff to coordinate specialty programming and projects.
Opportunity for involvement in Group Fitness, Premium Classes, and Mental Wellness programming.
Coordinate staffing collaborations with the Health Promotion & Education academic program.
Coordinate daily fitness equipment preventative maintenance, including inspections, inventory, and minor repairs.
Develop/revise policy and procedure manuals and employee handbooks.
Supervise implementation of health/fitness assessments for members.
Develop and implement educational fitness floor programs and incentive programs for members.
Evaluate program offerings using satisfaction/interest surveys and make appropriate recommendations.
Develop and execute marketing and promotional plans for associated fitness and wellness programs and activities.
Develop short-term and long-term goals and objectives for areas of responsibility as well as participate in department goal setting.
Direct and maintain excellent member services and relations. Respond to suggestions, complaints, needs and interests in a timely manner.
Instruct American Red Cross CPR/AED Professional Rescuer Trainings (Instructor training is provided).
Provide support to Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness as needed.
Ability to occasionally work early mornings, late evenings, or weekends.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelors' degree with three (3) years’ experience; -OR- Associate's degree with five (5) years’ experience; -OR- seven (7) years’ experience.
Experience must be in program development or business administration.
Master’s degree in health and fitness, physical education, recreation management, kinesiology/exercise science, health education/promotion or closely related field.
Demonstrated knowledge and physical ability to lead fitness based activities and training, preferred in a collegiate setting.
Two years of demonstrated success in fitness programming management, preferred in a collegiate setting.
Current or past nationally-accredited Personal Training or related Certification.
Proven commitment to student and staff development.
A demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem solve, and prioritize tasks.
Strong knowledge of fitness and wellness as it relates to recreation facilities and programming.
