Purpose/Objective of Position: Design, create, plan, implement and evaluate operational policies and procedures for Rec Center and Youth Camp program. Coordinate and conduct departmental CPR and Safety trainings. Support the mission and activities of UMD RSOP through whole-unit , campus and community involvement. In order to meet the demands and expectations of this position, work hours may vary from week to week and season to season.
Major Job Functions: Rec Facility Oversight Student Staff Supervision and Development, Youth Programs, Safety and First Aid/Risk Management, Fiscal Management and Planning
Tasks Within Each Major Job Function: Rec Facility Oversight • Monitor operations of the Rec addition and related facilities (rink, fieldhouse, Romano) • Create, monitor, assess and update all policies and practices pertaining to informal Rec operations, particularly where non-compliance is observed. • Operate under the budgetary guidance of RSOP director and provide feedback on expenditures and opportunities for savings • Contribute to the RSOP Team by assisting and working with individuals from multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds (i.e. race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, or sexual orientation)
Student Supervision and Development • Supervise student operational staff in RSOP including creating job descriptions, hiring, scheduling, training, assigning work, evaluating performance, rewards and discipline. • Ensure student workers are enforcing procedures and practice. • Assist with planning and conducting annual award banquets and staff events. Coordinate Fall Staff Training
Youth Programs • Create and coordinate Youth Camp content and schedules; arrange, confirm and facilitate outside group contracts • Create, monitor, assess and update all policies and practices pertaining to Youth Camps • Working with Marketing Coordinator, market youth camp. Enter Youth Camp information into RecTrac. • Create Counselor job descriptions; hiring, scheduling, training, assigning work, evaluating performance , rewards and discipline of Camp Counselor Staff.
Safety and First Aid/Risk Management • Coordinate and conduct CPR and AED certification training as dictated by departmental need • Coordinate and conduct basic First-Aid training for student supervisors.
• Ensure compliance and understanding of on-campus EAP protocols for RSOP student staff to include operations, intramurals , sport clubs , aquatics, rental, main office, climbing . This includes regular/ongoing training and placement of current EAP materials at workstations.
Fiscal Management and Planning • Operate under the budgetary guidance of RSOP director and provide feedback on expenditures and opportunities for savings • Oversee operational equipment such as work stations, membership passes, athletic equipment, etc. • Participate in long-range planning and events for RSOP • Represent RSOP on campus and community committees and external collaborations

Required Qualifications: • BA/BS with two years professional experience in campus or municipal recreation, sports management, youth programming.
Preferred Qualifications: • BA/BS in recreation, sport management , education
• Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification
