GENERAL INFORMATION: Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Director, this position is responsible for the coordination and management of comprehensive fitness and wellness program for a residential campus community. This position is responsible for the direction, day-to-day management and supervision for over 70 weekly group exercise classes, personal training program and diverse instructional programs. The position is also responsible for Employee based programs, Signature Events and assisting with Health Promotions and Health Sciences FIT collaborations.
Coordinate and manage innovative programs reflecting industry trends including, Group Fitness, Personal Training, Instructional Program Courses and employee specific programming
Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate qualified staff including group fitness instructors, personal trainers, instructional program instructors and student interns. Demonstrate a commitment for hiring Federal Work Study students.
Ensure that professional and student staff receive training and maintain certifications and training as required by industry standards.
Prepare and maintain accurate staff and program records.
Collect program data, monitor program budgets and prepare statistical and financial reports.
Develop and revise staff training, manuals, and in-service training to meet industry and university standards.
Assist with the development of strategic plans and initiatives, including program specific goals and objectives to track measurable outcomes.
Provide accurate and timely communications to staff, supervisor and Campus Recreation leadership.
Collaborate and serve on a variety of campus committees to promote awareness and support fitness and wellness campus initiatives.
Act as a representative and liaison for Campus Recreation and other university department
Coordinate and manage an equipment maintenance and replacement plan, including inventory, tracking and ordering.
Assist with scheduling FIT classes taught in Recreation Center.
Partner with other Campus Recreation programs to offer collaborative opportunities for staff and participants.
Participate as a representative of Campus Recreation at university programs and events, such as Family Weekend, Homecoming, Orientation, Expos and New Employee Orientation.
Work with Campus Recreation Marketing to develop strategic communication and promotions for fitness programs.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk management plan that ensures physical and emotional safety for Fitness and Wellness programs and spaces.
Create and maintain an inclusive and safe environment to support a culturally rich and diverse environment for staff and participants.
Teach FIT classes for the Health Sciences department.
Coordinate instruction of the ACE Personal Trainer Preparation Course.
Other duties as assigned to support division and departmental vision, objectives and goals.

Bachelor of Science in one of the Health Sciences: Exercise Science, Fitness and Wellness, Sports Management, Health Education/Promotion, or related field AND Minimum two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience in organizing, planning and implementing a fitness/wellness program responsible for training group fitness instructors and personal trainers.
Must have at least one (1) nationally recognized certification such as ACSM, AFAA, or ACE certification in-group fitness classes (i.e. step, kickboxing, cycle, Pilates, yoga, etc.) and personal training. Continuing education and certifications must be maintained.
Certified American Red Cross Professional Rescuer required and instructor certification or will obtain in the first 60 days of employment.
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience in a higher educational setting.
Certified American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Training Instructor certification. Certified personal trainer, group exercise and body mind instructor.
