Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Services, serves as a department director within the Division of Student Affairs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing the programs, services and day-to-day operations of the campus recreation operation. Provides leadership for, and supervision of professional staff, administrative staff, maintenance staff and graduate & student assistants who support him/her in developing and implementing programs and services that achieve division goals and objectives. Primary responsibility is to ensure efficient and effective operation of campus recreation facilities and programs that support and enhance the personal development of students in their curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular experience.
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Direct administrative operations, and establish, review, and update policies and procedures, including all safety, compliance, and risk management policies and applications. Ensure continuous quality management and improvement in programs and services.
Develop and implement residential education programs and services that achieve department, division, and university mission, vision, goals and objectives, including retention and progression efforts targeted to students. Work to create and promote a campus climate that encourages respect and engagement by all students.
Implement procedures and, and ensure compliance with all emergency protocols in collaboration with multiple university departments.
Administer all personnel recruitment/selection, hiring, retention efforts, and termination decisions, and oversee professional development activities.
Manage the financial operations, including budget planning and implementation. Closely monitor revenue and expenditures
Assess facility conditions and operations; develop and implement plans for life-cycle replacement; coordinate renovation, repair work and equipment replacement as necessary.
Assist in all Student Affairs operations as needed, and lead or participate on division, campus, and university committees or other bodies and may serve in place of the Assistant Vice President for Student Services as requested.
Establish, implement and assess opportunities for wellness promotion and outreach across each campus, including collaboration with other departments.
May be assigned other duties as determined by the Assistant Vice President for Student Services or the university.
Perform all other related duties/tasks as required.
Master’s degree in higher education, sport administration, business or related field from an accredited college or university and five years of progressively responsible full-time experience in campus recreation, higher education administration or other recreation related area.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
Knowledge of local and national issues, trends and best practice standards in Campus Recreation
Experience working with data collection outcome measures to assess services and to promote quality improvement
Ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, verbally, using technology and in writing within a diverse university community
