Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation for Competitive Sports, the Coordinator of Competitive Sports will serve on a team responsible for the daily operation and management of a comprehensive schedule of Club Sports and Intramural Sports programming. Campus Recreation is a department within the division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and wellness programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Hepper Fitness Center, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports. Campus Recreation is comprised of 53 full-time staff and more than 900 student staff members.
Job Responsibilities Include:
Assisting in the development, management and daily oversight of a comprehensive Club Sports and Intramural Sports program
Assisting with hiring, training scheduling, supervision and evaluation of student employees
Development of training materials and providing guidance and direction for Club Sports Officers
Assisting in the development and implementation of a comprehensive risk management program for Club Sports and Intramural Sports participants as well as creation and implementation of Intramural Sports leagues and special events.
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in collegiate club and intramural sports programs as demonstrated through past positions in a collegiate recreation setting is strongly preferred. Knowledge of basic safety and risk management practices and industry standards as they relate to recreational sports programming and program management is required. Work schedule will include some evening and weekend hours.
This position requires independent work on assignments while reviewing progress and updating the Assistant Director as appropriate. The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees and participants is essential.Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Must be able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and good judgment are vital requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental and Student Affairs initiatives and efforts. Required to take initiative and have flexibility to adapt to shifting workload demands.
