This is a senior level administrative position for the organization.
Under the general direction of the Executive Director the Associate Director of the Event Center Arena and Spartan Recreation oversees the management of the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and programming functions of Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center (SRAC) and its auxiliary facility, plus the Bowling Center, The Event Center Arena, Competitive Sports, and Outdoor Adventure, including Marketing and Social Media for all areas. This position has 4 direct reports, 17 indirect reports, and approximately 250 student staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develops, implements and supports procedures for communication, interaction and teamwork, and holds staff accountable to the same standards.
Develops, implements, and oversees procedures for fiscal effectiveness and efficiency.
Supervises staff in the various departments to ensure quality of operation and consistency with organizational objectives.
Develops marketing strategies to increase the awareness and usage for all facilities and departments under he/she’s oversight.
Works with the SU Director of Facilities and the SU Facilities Engineer department to develop and implement policies and procedures to address long and short term maintenance needs, including working with contractors and vendors who are called in to address facility maintenance of the building
In all areas of the operations, works with staff to ensure capital equipment purchases are necessary, and meets the organizational bidding standards.
Responsible for enforcing policies and procedures to protect the corporation from risk and liability in all facilities and departments under his/hers oversight, including but not limited to crowd control, ADA, equipment, water safety and exercise equipment usage.
Works with Campus Capital Planning and the Student Union Director of Facilities and IT in the planning, development and implementation of major and minor renovations and new construction projects.
Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with other University department heads and off campus clients.

Qualifications and Specifications
Requires at least a Bachelor’s degree in Business/Management or a related field. A Master’s degree preferred.
Requires at least seven years’ experience in business functions, operations, and facilities management of large sports, arena, recreational facilities and programs, and an environment involving student activities.
Extensive knowledge and experience with developing and implementing strong policies and procedures that minimizes the risk, ensures the safety of the facilities and departments, and the financial viability of all areas with his/hers oversight
Leadership role in the renovation or new construction of a capital project (minimum $ 5 million)
Requires excellent interpersonal skills.
Requires very good verbal and written communication skills.
Requires good computer skills (Word processing and spreadsheet programs).
Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
