The Marketing Coordinator will develop, lead, and maintain strategic marketing and communications for Recreation Services. They are responsible for developing marketing/communications plans, managing advertising and production of promotional items, discussing projects with colleagues, creating and revising marketing materials, leveraging social media resources and tools, implementing web and email marketing strategies, and supervising student hourly employee(s)/intern(s).
Project Management/Production: 45%
Develop and implement customized communication strategies and plans for assigned constituents
Develop concepts, headlines and copy in all media forms
Work with graphic design team to ensure creation of a consistent communications/marketing strategy
Create and complete projects on time and within budget
Work with colleagues to produce high quality printed materials
Directly hire, train and supervise student hourly employee(s)/intern(s).
Participate on Recreation Services and University committees
Digital Marketing: 30%
Develop and/or oversee multimedia production (written, video, images) for website, broadcast and other mediums
Assist in the design and maintenance of organizational website(s), social media and other emerging communications technologies
Monitor social media conversations relevant to Recreation Services audience, respond to comments and questions in a timely and professional manner and ensure compliance with university social media guidelines.
Consult with Marketing and Communications regarding the university content management system.
Establish social media content calendars, identify and engage key audience, refine and implement best practices.
Market Branding: 10%
Lead efforts to define, establish and manage a sponsorship/advertising program for KU Recreation Services
Lead marketing and branding initiatives for KU Recreation Services
Manage assigned promotional events, primarily those to be held in the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center
Enforce editorial/graphic standards and style that coordinate with the university’s branding strategies.
Provide guidance to content experts in defining and developing communications strategies utilizing appropriate data analytics, polices and processes
Develop strong and collaborative working relationships with colleagues
Train and serve as a resource for staff in the area of strategic communications
Champion and implement best practices in developing success metrics for all communications strategies
Spearhead efforts to more closely align the look, feel and messages of all Recreation Services communications
Encourage and guide staff in successfully using the Communications Area's resources and abiding by applicable University policies and procedures

Work Schedule This position will work an average of 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, typically 8a-5p. Position will also work some morning, late night, weekend and holiday hours when necessary.
A bachelor's degree in a closely related field, such as journalism, advertising, account management, communications, marketing, graphic design, or industrial design from an accredited college, university or school.
Minimum one (1) year of professional experience (2 year Graduate Assistantship equals 1 year professional experience) with some combination of: marketing campaign design/implementation, digital, mobile, web product, social media strategy, digital marketing or similar role.
Demonstrated experience administering social media technology and SEO to optimize content - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blogs, web, etc.
Experience with digital measurement tools such as Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, YouTube Insights, Hootsuite, Salesforce, and/or other related tools/online services.
Experience with coordinating programs, following direction, and prioritizing projects; and working with, interpreting, and presenting data findings.
Working knowledge of web usability practices, content strategy, and content management methods and systems, such as content accessibility guidelines (Section 508) and W3C standards.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, working knowledge and experience with multimedia software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, and a working understanding of Drupal and HTML/CSS.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Experience working in Recreation Services or higher education setting,
