The Assistant Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the daily operations and personnel within the Intramural program. This person will also assist in the development and implementation of Club Sports programs.
• Manage the intramural program. • Schedule intramural competitions and/or activities that promote and enhance student development and wellness. • Organize, schedule, oversee activity areas to ensure readiness for intramural events to begin and return areas to pre-activity conditions when activities have concluded. • Recruit, hire, train, schedule and evaluate a diverse group of students to assist with overseeing and implementing programs. • Review and approve all student employee timesheets. • Conduct sport official training clinics to provide information such as rules, schedules, etc. on events and ensure smooth operation of events when they occur. • Working with the Director as appropriate, conduct disciplinary hearings resulting from poor sportsmanship, determining and imposing appropriate sanction for each offense and situation. • Compile data for all intramural activities and events to use as a basis for assessing and reporting program effectiveness and in consideration of improvement and further development of student/member recreation programs. • Work with other SRWC staff to plan and coordinate special events, playing a lead role for those related to intramural activities and an supportive role for other events. • Provide leadership, direction and support to Club Sports programs. • Develop short and long-range plans for establishing and expanding Club Sport offerings. • Recommend new programs and policies. Maintain records, prepare statistical reports, evaluations, participation reports, and complete program manuals. • Assist in determining program fiscal needs and preparing budget recommendations, statistical reporting, purchase requests, and documentation. • Participate in annual development of program and unit goals and objectives; prepare semester and annual reports to document achievements, needs and recommendations that shape ongoing planning. • Actively participate in regularly scheduled unit meetings, and monthly Recreational Sports staff meetings. • Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive environment in all programs and facilities. • Maintain equipment and office supply inventory, ordering additional supplies as needed. • Serve on Department or University committees as assigned. • Collaborate with University Staff across campus. • Provides oversight and leadership to other SRWC workers to promote and maintain a healthy, fair, and inclusive work environment by promoting diversity, exercising teamwork and collaboration. Actively promote a professional workplace culture of mutual respect and collegiality for all members of the institution. • Performs additional duties as assigned or appropriate.
• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education or related field required. • Two years of experience in sports programming in a college recreational setting. • Two years of graduate assistantship in a related field equates to one year of related professional work experience. • Related professional work experience to include experience in the following areas: Programming experience, Supervision, and/or Risk management procedures.
Preferred: Master’s degree.
