Job Description: Responsibilities/General Duties: - Oversees daily operations of fitness center membership, including registration, dues payments, and equipment/facility upkeep. - Coordinates the various activities of Campus Recreation's fitness and wellness programs including, but not limited to group fitness programs, personal training services, and aquatics. - Assists in the hiring, training, supervising, and evaluation of group fitness instructors, student employees, and other fitness program personnel. - Oversees care, maintenance and cleanliness of the facility and equipment. Maintains the appearance and function of all exercise equipment. Manages appropriate equipment inventory to support daily operations, including services and fitness programs. - Assists with promoting, creating, executing, supervising, and assessing all aspects of various fitness programs provided to a diverse campus population. - Provides high quality customer service, contributing to a positive, friendly work and wellness environment. Responds to suggestions, complaints, needs and interests in a timely manner. Establishes and maintains excellent customer service and client relations.
Risk Management - Researches and implements national, industry and local guidelines related to risk management prevention and protocols to help provide a comfortable and healthy environment and minimize the risk of liability to the University. - Contributes to the development of the risk management plan and implements practices to minimize risk to ensure that staff and participants adhere to the policies and procedures associated with the safety of the program. - Assists with the responsibility of ensuring all staff are trained and adhere to the emergency action plan, equipment safety, personal safety, exercise safety, and accident and incident reporting based on university and industry standards
Assessment - Assists the Associate Director of Campus Recreation in creating, identifying, and assessing program goals and learning outcomes. - Responsible for yearly assessment of the overall fitness center program.
Other - Represents the department at various campus, division, and community functions as assigned. - Performs other duties as assigned and/or required.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, human/sport science, physical education, recreation management, with 2 - 3 years of experience in a fitness or wellness field. Certified in CPR/First Aid Knowledge and experience with safety and risk management as it pertains to a fitness setting. Demonstrated knowledge and physical ability to lead fitness based activities and training, preferred in a collegiate setting. Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, management, leadership, and professional skills. Proven commitment to student and staff development and customer service. A demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem solve, and meet deadlines. Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team. Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience must include at least one (1) year supervision and one (1) year of experience in campus recreation or related field. Certification from an accredited organization such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or NASM in related program areas preferred. Lifeguard certification is preferred
