The Department of Campus Recreation at Penn State University is seeking a Coordinator within our Aquatics Program. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides recreational and wellness programs and services to the campus community through the operation and administration of the newly expanded and renovated 200,000 sf Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center, the White Building Recreation Center, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports.
Job Responsibilities Include:
Serving on a team responsible for the daily operations of aquatic programming and related staffing for programs including informal recreation swim, swimming lessons, first aid and CPR classes and other student-centric aquatic programming
Recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, mentoring and evaluating student staff including lifeguards and first aid/CPR class instructors
The McCoy Natatorium is an 80,000 sf facility containing three bodies of water; a 6-lane, 25-yard competition pool, a 6-lane, 25-meter recreational pool, and a diving well. McCoy hosts informal recreation swimming, water fitness, Boga Fit fitness and yoga classes; a full youth and adult swim lesson program, as well as special events such as battleship and dive-in movies. During the summer months an outdoor pool serves informal recreation swim for the campus community.
A bachelor’s degree is required along with three years of aquatics experience.Current lifeguard certificationis required. Knowledge of collegiate aquatics programs including lifeguard training and development, masters training and other aquatic programming as demonstrated through past experience in a collegiate setting is a must. Knowledge of basic safety and risk management practices and industry standards as they relate to aquatics programming and program management is required.The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of users is essential.
Work schedule will include some evening and weekend hours. Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills needed. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and as well as in a team environment. The successful candidate will be required to take initiative and have flexibility to adapt to shifting workload demands.
