Assists the SRWC Associate Director and SRWC Director in the coordination and support of the wellness & recreational programming functions of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC). Works with the Associate Director to plan and establish priorities for programs and projects; and stays abreast of new trends and innovations in recreation. Provides management oversight in intramural sports, Beach Balance wellness programs, aquatics, inclusive recreation, outdoor adventures, and open recreation. This position develops, implements, and leads special events of the SRWC. This position provides oversight over the Beach Balance wellness centers in both the SRWC and the University Student Union (SRWC).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Oversees, leads, and directs personnel engaged in intramural sports, wellness, aquatics, inclusive recreation, outdoor adventures, open recreation and special events services.
Provides leadership and direction for the planning, development, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of a comprehensive recreation and wellness program including wellness programs, nutritional information and workshops, aquatics, intramural sports.
Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates student staff, which includes graduate assistants, trip leaders, and supervisors.
As a member of the USU senior management team, meets regularly with other management personnel to establish and ensure effective on-going communication and coordination among departments. Assists USU managers with all aspects of program and service delivery and ensures USU adherence to the mission, goals, and policies of the Associated Students.
Studies and analyzes recreational needs and resources. Conducts market research and develops short- and long-range goals and objectives to meet the changing needs and interests of students and other users.
Prepares budgets and financial projections and monitors monthly financial statements for all recreation and wellness programs under this position’s direction.
Purchases equipment and services from outside vendors. Establishes and maintains contact with service and equipment vendors.
Develops and maintains relations with other recreation providers on campus. Works with staff at off-campus sites to develop and run appropriate programs.
Studies and complies with all applicable, city, county and government regulations.
Directs the formulation, development, and documentation of operating policies and procedures for the Student Recreation & Wellness Center, consistent with ASI and university regulations. Ensures comprehensive risk management procedures for all program areas.
Establishes and maintains effective communications and working relationships with USU Board of Trustee members specifically within Programs Evaluations Committee Works closely with Director and Chair on annual strategic goals.
Serves on campus wide committees to promote university wide health and wellness initiatives.
Manages two full-time, two part-time and 100+ part-time employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required or equivalent from a college or university in recreation, physical education/kinesiology, business administration or a related field; Master’s preferred; three to five years related experience in recreation management, college union or student services administration; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR-PRO/AED Certification, Wilderness and Remote First Aid procedures certification preferred.
