The Campus Recreation department provides opportunities for USFSP students, faculty and staff to participate in a wide variety of recreational pursuits. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs. The department has 6 full time employees and 100+ part time employees. The budget for Campus Recreation is just over $1 million and Campus Recreation includes Fitness, Competitive Sports, Outdoor Recreation, and Aquatics.
This position serves as a full time professional member of the USFSP Campus Recreation staff. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee and provide leadership to the Competitive Sports program. The Competitive Sports program consists of Sport Clubs, Intramural Sports and outdoor recreation fields and courts Maintenance. This position is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and development of Sport Club and Intramural Sports student staff that operate the programs. This position will maintain rosters, approving travel, coordinate facility reservations, develop and uphold risk management policies, manage inventory, train coaches, captains and officials, officer development and market programs to engage student participation. This position will work closely with Campus Recreation Business Operations Coordinator, Student Government, General Counsel, USFSP Police, the Tampa Bay Rowdies, and other various departments within the University community. Position will require some night and weekends supervisory hours and will need to be accessible by cell phone and/or email. This position is consider an essential personnel for emergency management and may be required to assist with emergency operations.
Oversee daily program operations, including; tracking club administrative compliance, developing program events, scheduling and staffing club practices, Intramural leagues and tournaments, providing officer, captains and officials’ training, managing equipment inventory.
Advise the Sport Club Council as they review and allocate interim budgets, budget transfers, and annual budgets. Utilize the Sport Club Council as an advisory board seeking their feedback and opinions on a variety of issues that impact Sport Clubs. Develop events and initiatives to serve on sport club officers and athletes.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop, evaluate and terminate (when necessary) Competitive Sport student and non-student OPS employees
Assist in department strategic planning, marketing efforts, establish learning outcomes and obtaining department goals.
Assist department in planning, developing, organizing and directing camp programs.
Ensure facilities are safe and minimize risk by assisting in overseeing field and courts maintenance and scheduling lights.
Assisting with other duties as assigned.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, with at least one year of experience in a student affairs or student personnel position; or a Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or Sports Recreation Administration. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor degree requirement for this position.
A Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Sports Recreation Administration, Sports Administration, Health/Physical Education, or related field.
At least two years of experience facilitating university Competitive Sports programming and sports officiating.
Demonstrated experience successfully the following Campus Recreation activities: Sport Clubs, Intramural Sports, and student development.
Demonstrated ability to create and execute campus recreation programming plans including evaluation of learning objectives.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage programming administration, equipment organization, team building, discipline, and university policy.
Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office and knowledgeable with recreation management software.
