The program coordinator is a key member of the Salem State University Campus Life and Recreation/Gassett Fitness Center staff that offers programs including fitness, wellness, intramural sports, club sports, informal recreation, co-curricular evening and weekend programming and special events. Under the direct supervision of the director of campus life and recreation, the program coordinator will be responsible for the administration, supervision and development of comprehensive co-curricular evening and weekend programming, while assisting with the operation of the Gassett Fitness Center. The program coordinator supervises student staff and part-time contract employees.
This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings and regular evenings and weekends. Typical position hours are 11:30am-8:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities:
(E) Responsible for the development, administration and supervision of co-curricular evening and weekend programming to engage the campus community. This includes program offerings related, but not limited to, music, entertainment, recreation, theater, art, fairs and large-scale event
(E) Coordinates weekend experiences and programming for all students and promotes the development, operation and evaluation of these opportunities
(E) Responsible for department wide marketing of programs and events and building audience awareness with various campus constituents including students, faculty, staff and administrators. Must address web and print marketing needs
(E) Responsible for the development of a department wide calendar and campus outreach to promote all offerings. Recruits students to get involved and is responsible for ensuring programs are effectively promoted and appeal to a diverse student population
Schedules entertainment/activities and reserves use of appropriate facilities/equipment
Responsible for budget and contract management in areas of responsibility, related to co-curricular evening and weekend programming and special events (i.e. open mic night, comedy show, etc.)
(E) Recruit, interview, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate staff in areas of responsibility
(E) Create and maintain department web and social media account
(E) Enhance a growing sense of community by fostering students’ awareness and appreciation for involvement in co-curricular activities and experiences
(E) Creates opportunities for students to participate in the life of campus through events, traditions and celebrations, collaborating with campus partners as needed
(E) Create opportunities for fitness center membership growth and work with campus partners as applicable
(E) Conduct CPR/AED/First Aid certification courses for department staff
(E) Supervise the utilization, operation, inventory, and maintenance of all supplies within areas of responsibility
(E) Provide leadership in the areas of student development through regular training sessions and meetings
(E) Responsible for receiving, scheduling and confirming facility reservations and placing confirmed programs and events into Innosoft Fusion (departmental facility scheduling system) and 25Live as well as coordinating meetings with event organizers to determine event needs, scope and specifics for areas of responsibility
Assist with supervision of the day to day operations of the Gassett Fitness Center
Assist with assessment efforts of the Student Life division and within the unit including basic tracking of activities, program evaluation, and measurement of learning outcomes. Evaluate, track and compile statistical information for program areas including daily, weekly and monthly measures
Follow student life and university policies and procedures, including serving on the weekend on-call rotation schedule, and serving as the emergency contact in the case of a student emergency related to areas of responsibility
Support Student Life initiatives and programming such as student orientation
Serves on committees as assigned
Demonstrates sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles
Manages evening and weekend programs and events
Other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree in student affairs, student development, recreation or a related field
Two or more years of experience in higher education programming
Budget preparation, monitoring, and payroll/invoice tracking experience
Thorough understanding of risk management protocols as it relates to areas of responsibility. Ability to develop risk management policies and procedures to ensure participant safety
Ability to assess student needs and interact effectively with a diverse population
CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
Master’s degree in student affairs, recreation, student development or related field
Two or more years of experience in successful management of student staff in a student affairs programming areas
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively schedule time and meet deadlines
