Fitness Coordinator - Personal Training
This position is responsible for the development, management and supervision of the American University’s Personal Training, Small Group Training, and Fitness Assessment programs. This position oversees ~15 student and part-time personal trainers and takes the lead in developing on-going trainings for all fitness employees. The Fitness Coordinator must keep up with current trends in the fitness industry. The Fitness Coordinator also acts as evening supervisor two evenings / week and manages the day to day operations of the Fitness Center during this time period. This position reports to and works closely with the Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness.
Fitness Coordinator - Wellness & Special Events
This position is responsible for the development, management and supervision of the Recreational Sports & Fitness wellness programs. This position also manages our Team Challenge program. The Fitness Coordinator manages a team of student Wellness Ambassadors and Team Challenge facilitators. This position works with partners across campus to help coordinate all special events for Recreational Sports and Fitness, including our late-night programs, wellness education initiatives, and programs targeting underserved populations. The Fitness Coordinator also acts as evening supervisor two evenings / week. This position reports to and works closely with the Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness.
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Fitness, Nutrition, Health Education or related field, or the equivalent in education, training and/or experience. At least two years of relevant work experience. Current CPR and AED certification. A nationally recognized and accredited personal training, group fitness, or wellness certification. Good written and verbal communication skills.

Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Fitness, Nutrition, Health Education or related field preferred. Experience in working in campus recreation.

We also manage Cassell Fitness Center and Congressional Fitness Center. Cassell is approximately 8,000 square feet of fitness and multiple purpose studio space. Congressional is 1,000 square feet and primarily used for personal and small group training.
