University Recreation at Mississippi State University is seeking qualified applicants for two GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS. The positions are 12-month positions, 0.5 FTE, and the University provides a tuition waiver (see stipend details below).

COMPETITIVE SPORTS GRADUATE ASSISTANT
Completed two or more years of experience as an intramural official.
Participate and/or work with a Collegiate Sport Club.
Experience supervising intramural sports.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Oversee the daily operations of the Competitive Sports Office. This includes assisting with scheduling; updating league standings and forfeit information daily; assisting with sport registration.
Assist in the recruiting, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student employees.
Be on-site or on-call as assigned for intramural and sport club events; insure that all fields or courts are adequately staffed to begin play and that all games begin promptly.
Ensure that the RecPlex is open as advertised and adequately staffed for safe and efficient operation. Insure that all facilities offer a safe environment; report any necessary equipment or facility repairs to Competitive Sports Coordinator and Building Maintenance Supervisor.
Advise the Sport Club Alliance. Assist clubs with the development of budgets. Insure clubs operate within university policy. Assist clubs in making reservations for activity space. Serve as the liaison between clubs and the university.
Complete general maintenance on fields for intramural sports and sport clubs.
AFAA, ACE or comparable Personal Training certification desirable
Experience in personal training a wide variety of clients
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Proficiency in written and oral communication skills and utilization of computers
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
Employee development and performance management skills
Ability to foster a positive, cooperative work environment
Ability to plan, organize, and implement promotional programs and events
Ability to comply with all policies and regulations of Mississippi State University and enforce policies that apply to University Recreation programs and services
Assist in supervision and evaluation of personal training program and student fitness trainers.
Train and evaluate personal trainers, track clients and training package sales, develop staff trainings.
Insure that all fitness areas and programs are safely staffed and managed for efficient operation.
Organize and develop in-service meetings.
Insure that all facilities offer a safe environment; report equipment and facility repairs to Building Maintenance Supervisor.
Properly restock and purchase new equipment as needed.
Assist with planning, promotion and supervision of University Recreation events.
Participate in short and long term planning for all areas of department.
Be on-site/on-call for fitness programs and special events as necessary
Other duties as requested by University Recreation professional staff.

Additional Salary Information: STIPEND: $12,681 for twelve months. The University will provide a tuition exemption of approximately 70% of assessed tuition and required fees. An exemption of 100% of the nonresident tuition/fee assessment will be provided to those not classified as a resident of Mississippi. Student will be responsible for the remaining balance of assessed tuition and required fees. Funding for professional development available.
