Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Fitness, Wellness, and Special Programs, the Fitness Coordinator is responsible for the design, implementation, coordination, and the general supervision of the Recreation Department's fitness programs including management of the Rec Cen fitness centers, group fitness programs, Fit Squad and instructor education programs.
Plans, organizes and manages the daily operations of the Rec Cen fitness centers which serve students, faculty, staff and community members. Provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the Fitness programs. Sets policies and procedures within the fitness centers and for auxiliary fitness equipment. Facilitates the scheduling of space, hires and manages the staff who monitor these spaces, works with the marketing team to ensure these programs are effectively marketed to the UCSB community, handles all comments/complaints from participants, and regularly evaluates the effectiveness of these programs.
Assists with the management and coordination of the summer youth camps.
Serves on department, division, UCSB, and UC committees as appropriate.
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, students and affiliates as well as members from a diverse socioeconomic, ethnic and educational community.
Leadership skills to interpret current trends and directions and be able to apply those appropriately to the University.
Strong office administration and organization skills. Ability to use basic computer programs including Office Suite products.
Demonstrated ability to hire, train and evaluate full and part time staff.
Bachelors degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management, or a related field preferred.
Masters degree highly preferred.
Five years progressive experience in Campus Recreation or related recreation field preferred.
Irregular work hours, with possible weekend work hours. Notes: Background check required.
