The Department of Campus Recreation within the Division of Student Affairs at Utah State University seeks a positive, collaborative, and dynamic individual to join our team as our Coordinator of Outdoor Programs. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Outdoor Equipment and Facilities, the Coordinator of Outdoor Programs is responsible for the collaboration, development, coordination, implementation, and daily operations of all aspects of the Utah State University Outdoor Program consisting of the challenge course, climbing wall academic classes, and supporting the Assistant Directors in all other programs related to Outdoor Programs: Alternative Programs, Non-credit Classes, Retail, Rentals, Adventure Trips, and General Operations. This individual will be a key team member of the Campus Recreation Department, which provides aquatic programs, club sports, fitness/wellness, intramurals, outdoor recreation, special events, extramurals, and collaborative programs.
Directly manage and oversee the USU Challenge Course (75% time of the position).
Assist the Assistant Directors in the administration, implementation, and supervision of the overall Outdoor Program and staff to include: academic climbing classes, adventure trips, alternative programs, climbing wall, rental shop, retail, yurt rentals, and outdoor equipment. (25% time of position)
Manage the day-to-day academic climbing wall class instruction.
Develop and update policies and procedures for the challenge course including manuals, inspections, and program reports.
Compile, prepare, and maintain records for Outdoor Programs such as budget, participation numbers, rental reports, injuries, and incident reports.
Develop program challenge course facilitator manuals, trainings and workshops, and internships, including a comprehensive staff training program and training modules.
Responsible for inventory and maintaining Outdoor Programs Challenge Course equipment.
Coordinate maintenance work for all areas of responsibility including specific equipment maintenance and inventory.
Assist in the development and implementation of risk management protocols for areas of responsibility within Outdoor Programs.
Responsible for scheduling, coordination, and instructing of ACCT Level I Facilitator trainings.
Establish a relationship with external vendors for annual inspection and staff certification.
Work evening and weekends when necessary regarding outdoor program special events.
Understand and represent the mission and vision of Utah State University Campus Recreation Department.
Assist with the marketing and promotion of all outdoor programs.
Collaborate with other outdoor programming staff to create and implement an international trips program.
Assist the Assistant Directors in expanding the number of experiences available to Utah State students through Outdoor Programs annually while ensuring each experience is aligned with USU Campus Recreation's mission.
Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluating Outdoor Programs Challenge Course Facilitators.
Indirectly supervise student staff in other Outdoor Programs areas.
Research, develop, monitor, and adhere to the Outdoor Programs budgets with direct oversight of the USU Challenge Course.
Oversee program student payroll, tracking, and approvals.
Research & Assessment
Evaluate Outdoor Programs and services to determine overall effectiveness and satisfaction to recommend possible changes as deemed appropriate.
Assist in the development and implementation of the Outdoor Programs research and assessment agenda to include development of student and program learning outcomes.
Prepare written communications such as monthly reports, annual reports, participation statistics, etc.
Actively participate on a variety of Aggie Recreation Center, Campus Recreation, and University committees as assigned.

Bachelor's degree preferably with a major in sports management, recreation administration, outdoor education, physical education, kinesiology/exercise science, business administration, or a related field.
2 years full-time, professional level experience (including Graduate Assistantship) managing and developing Challenge Course programs at a college/university or other community/private recreational programs during which time the applicant has acquired and demonstrated the ability to perform the essential duties of the position; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience.
Possess a minimum of ACCT Level II Facilitator.
Demonstrate competency of activity set-up, management, and tear down utilizing ACCT and ANSI Standards and approved equipment.
Specialized software management, for example: RecTrac, Fusion, Rent Master, etc.
Knowledge of the Challenge Course Industry.
Demonstrated knowledge of the following:

Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of relevant experience.
Previous supervisory experience in higher education and campus recreation desired. Prefer experience developing quality student programs and implementing risk management policies for safe facilities and programs at a Challenge Course/Teambuilding setting.
Demonstrated ability to provide instruction and possess technical proficiency in a variety of outdoor applications including kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, stand-up paddle boarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting, etc.
Possess current Wilderness First Responder, Ski Technician and Bike Mechanic Instructor certification(s).
Current CPR/First Aid Certification.
Active involvement in AORE and/or NIRSA – Leaders in Collegiate Recreation.
