West Virginia University Campus Recreation invites applications from candidates wishing to join our team as an Associate Director of Campus Recreation. The Associate Director, Campus Recreation serves on the department senior leadership team and:
Assists the Director with the operational, financial and personnel functions of the Campus Recreation department.
Serves as a central administrator for the buildings, programs/events, and services.
Assists with strategic visioning for the department.
Fosters an environment which is passionate about student development and the mentoring of young professionals.
In conjunction with the other Associate Director, this individual serves a hybrid programming and facility operations role. Focusing on current expertise as well as future interest, both individuals work collaboratively to provide supervision of full-time staff in a combination of departmental units. Units currently consist of: Aquatics, Competitive Sports, Fitness, Youth Programs, Member Services, Events, Operations, Craft Center.
In addition, the Associate Director oversees a number of Process Teams which develop and implement new recreational programming, services and activity offerings which are in line with university needs and industry trends.
Minimum of 5 years Experience:
Progressively responsible supervisory position in a college or university recreation environment including supervision of one or more full time staff.
Progressively responsible experience in personnel management, risk management, and budgeting.
Demonstrated computer competency.
Demonstrated competency in customer service delivery systems.
First Aid/CPR & AED certification (possess or obtain within 6 weeks of employment).
NIRSA Registered Collegiate Recreational Sports Professional (RCRSP) or Certified Recreational Sports Specialist (CRSS) preferred.
CPO/AFO (Certified Pool Operator/Aquatic Facility Operator) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Passionate about student development and the mentoring of young professionals.
Demonstrated ability to work with students, student organizations, faculty/student committees, different government agencies, and community groups.
Demonstrated ability to lead diverse groups of individuals employing flexibility in management techniques, appropriate to a variety of situations.
Possess and apply an entrepreneurial approach to planning and problem solving.
Knowledge and ability to manage multiple programs/events at multiple facilities, including, but not limited to, modern recreation centers, legacy buildings, natural grass and artificial turf fields as well as spaces leased from third parties.
Knowledge and ability to effectively handle public relations.
Strong time management and supervisory skills.
Ability to creatively plan and budget programs.
Skilled in program needs assessment and evaluation processes.
Working knowledge of contract negotiation and preparation.
Additional Salary Information: Potential Salary Range, Commensurate with Experience:
Associate Director $65,000-$72,500
