These positions are a 2-year commitment as full-time graduate students working as a GA within Campus Recreation.
About Towson University Campus Recreation
Campus Recreation, a department within Student Affairs, is dedicated to providing the TU community with programs and facilities that promote physical and social benefits. In 2018, Campus Recreation opened a 94,000 square foot expansion, which brought the building to a total of 235,000 square feet. The renovation included five Group Fitness studios, a sprint hill, two multi-activity courts, and an America ninja warrior-style course. In 2019, the Campus Recreation Center was named a NIRSA Outstanding Sports Facility. Our dedicated team is comprised of 18 professional staff, 8 GAs, and nearly 300 student staff.
The Graduate Assistant, Aquatics and Safety will assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of Campus Recreation Aquatics programs. This GA will aid in coordinating and teaching ARC CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer-First Aid Certification Classes and will provide oversight, supervision, and direction to the aquatics program including student staff interviewing, orientating, supervising and evaluation as well as administrative processing of all courses. This GA will also provide event supervision as it relates to facility safety and access control including monitoring and maintaining access and security systems, employee supervision, and risk management during various aquatics and safety events. Other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend hours required as needed. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Aquatics and Safety.
The Graduate Assistant, Competitive Sports will provide administrative and operational support to the Competitive Sports professional staff. Over the course of the two-year assistantship, the GA will benefit from two unique and immersive experiences, spending one full academic year with Sport Clubs and another in intramural sports. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, planning and facilitating training sessions, student staff supervision, risk management, program development, advising club officers, scheduling, providing onsite supervision of night & weekend programming and serving as a member of the Campus Recreation professional staff including attending weekly departmental staff meetings. Responsibilities may vary based on the evolving needs of the department and the skills of the applicant. Evening and weekend hours are required. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports and the Coordinator, Intramural Sports.
The Graduate Assistant, Facility Management will assist with administrative support and supervision of the operations of Campus Recreation facilities. The position works within all facets of facility operations including management of the Welcome Desk, Facility Managers, Event staff, informal recreation, scheduling, student personnel, risk management, and facility maintenance. These duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining records and reports, supervision of staff, maintenance, and day to day operations of the facility. Maintain personnel files and assist with the recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and development of the Welcome Desk staff and Facility Managers. Reports to the Assistant Director – Facilities Management. Evening and weekend hours required as needed.
The Graduate Assistant, Fitness serves as part of the fitness leadership team. The GA responsibilities will be focused on the administration and management of the fitness program to include student development, risk management, and programming to enhance the well-being of the university community. The GA will assist in all areas of fitness programming and operations in order to develop a well-rounded fitness professional that is prepared for a full-time career. This will include supervising fitness floor attendants and assisting in program development in area(s) of interests/specialties (Group Exercise, Personal Training, Small Group Training). This position reports to the Assistant Director, Fitness.
TheGraduate Assistant, Information Technology will provide support of the day-to-day technology hardware needs of the department to include maintenance, inventory management, installation, ordering, and troubleshooting. This GA will assist with the coordination and set up of Audio/Visual needs for events, presentations, and marketing programs. This position will assist in providing software administration for Campus Recreation and Towson University approved software. This GA will assist in providing IT training to professional staff and student employees on software usage, best practices, and management. Responsibilities will also include working with the Associate Director, Business Operations on initiatives, research, and support of future and current IT projects. Other duties as assigned. Evening and Weekend hours may be required as needed. This position reports to the Associate Director, Business Operations.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and successful admittance to a Towson University graduate program.
Previous experience working in Campus Recreation, specifically as a Supervisor or Program Assistant in the respective program area of application is preferred.
Applicants must be highly organized with effective time management skills; must be able to work in a fast-paced environment; must possess strong written and oral communication skills. Applicants must also have a current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification.

Additional Salary Information: Stipend/Tuition
The annual stipend of $7,000* and a full tuition waiver for up to 12 credit hours per semester. There is a potential to receive additional compensation at $14.25 per hour over the Summer, with supervisor approval.
