Job Summary: Sport Programs is a unit in the Department of University Recreation and Division of Student Life at the University of Alabama. The Sports Program Coordinator contributes to the success of University Recreation through strategic management of the Intramural Sports and Sport Club programs. These programs focus on providing structured programming options to foster health and wellbeing, learning, leadership, and inclusion.
Additional Department Summary: The Coordinator of Sport Programs will assist in the professional supervision of the Intramural Sports and Sport Club programs for University Recreation providing educational and recreational opportunities to the University community. Primary responsibilities include officials’ training and development, managing a comprehensive Intramural Sports program, scheduling Sport Club activities, and serving as a liaison for several Sport Clubs. This position reports to and works closely with the Assistant Director for Sport Programs. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating Sport Programs as well as the recruitment and supervision of student workers in collaboration with the Assistant Director and fellow Coordinator. The Assistant Director and Coordinator will determine a suitable work schedule to ensure appropriate coverage of all events; including evening games and weekend activities enhancing professional supervision during Sport Program activities. This position works to maximize student experiences through quality program and customer experiences. The Coordinator is responsible for fostering an environment for diversity, inclusion and outreach through both programs and services offered.
This position is responsible for completing required training related to laws and regulations, which creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace, and safer work environment. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and two (2) years of experience in program development, delivery, and evaluation of intramural sports and/or sport clubs in a collegiate recreation or municipal recreation setting. Will consider graduate assistantship or internship experience if performed with primary emphasis on Intramural Sports programming. Ability to work extended hours (nights and weekends) as needed. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of officiating and general sports rules. Effective customer relations, interpersonal skills, and verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge and skills associated with successfully managing a collegiate recreation program.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree preferred. Current CPR and First Aid certification. Active sports official and/or progression in officiating.
Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; varied hours due to Intramural games, nights & weekends as required.
