Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Health Science, Physical Education, Recreation & Sport Management, or related field with a GPA of 2.75 or above.
Admission in good academic standing (not on probation) into Wichita State University’s Graduate School in a graduate degree program
A minimum of one year of experience in the aquatics field, campus recreation aquatics position, or community aquatics recreation programming
Ability to supervise others and work in a dynamic, changing, and diverse environment
Genuine interest in gaining experience and knowledge to enhance skills in a chosen career
Customer service, leadership, and organization experience
Strong written and oral communication skills
American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (Aquatics and Special Events)
Nine month appointment for up to 5 academic semesters. Summer employment is available.
Out of state tuition waiver with 75% of up to 9 academic credit hours paid for by the Department of Campus Recreation
Stipend of $5,500.00 semester /$11,000.00 annual
Professional development support for one regional and one national conference.
Employment period will commence July 27th, 2020.
Aquatics and Special Events:The Graduate Assistant of Aquatics and Special Events will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of all Aquatics and Special Event related activities within Wichita State University Campus Recreation. The Graduate Assistant serves as a leader and liaison to the Aquatics team and is primarily responsible for collaborating with the Coordinator of Aquatics and Special Events in the hiring, training, supervision, evaluation of Aquatics employees, risk management and trainings, as well as the development, assessment, management, and marketing of Aquatics programs and Special Events, including NIRSA basketball tournament. This position is also a contributing member of the overall operation to successfully deliver on a wide-range of Campus Recreation programming.

Sport Programs: The Graduate Assistant of Sport Programs will assist with the administration of a comprehensive Sport Program that meets the diverse needs of the students of Wichita State University. This position will market, recruit, coordinate multiple-interview processes, and orientate new student staff to our program. This individual will have leadership and supervisory responsibilities over student leads, officials, and sport club leaders. This person will have direct and indirect responsibilities coordinating & executing multiple leagues, tournaments, and sport club activities through fall and spring semesters. This person will have A predominate role in the final year of the NIRSA Championship Series National Basketball Tournament, hosted by Wichita State University.
Officiating (certified by state/national governing body) and evaluating officials
Sport club participant or officer
Knowledge of safety and risk management issues for student organizations and sport activities
