The University of Akron is now accepting applications for the Coordinator of Informal Recreation and Facilities position. Working within the Division of Student Affairs in the Student Recreation and Wellness Services department, the Coordinator, Informal Recreation and Facilities manages, schedules, and coordinates the daily operation of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. This position is responsible for hiring, training, evaluating and supervising facility student employees and assists in the development and application of employee training in safety, customer service and event management. The coordinator is responsible for facility reservations and supervision of events.
Manages, schedules, and coordinates the facility schedule of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center; responsible for hiring, training, evaluating and supervising facility student employees and assists in the development and application of employee training's in safety, customer service and event management; direct supervision as a first-line supervisor over staff.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate approximately 65 student staff for the following positions: facility supervisor, front desk, equipment checkout, court monitor, and custodial. Design and deliver student training and development opportunities that align with industry best practices and increase student buy-in.
Organize, implement, and provide onsite supervision of special programs/events within recreation facilities and campus wide; work with department programs, university departments, and community patrons for scheduling, billing and contracts, personnel, supervision and other duties related to facility reservations; assist in operation of SRWS aquatic program to include facility operations, policy and procedure management, and special event management.
Coordinate informal recreation schedule for court space and open recreation time, ensuring a diverse offering of drop-in sports to meet the needs of the campus community; work with department programs, university departments, and community patrons for scheduling, billing and contracts, personnel, supervision and other duties related to facility reservations.
Support membership sales, guest pass sales, Pro Shop sales, and related fiscal policies and procedures including sourcing and inventory of retail items; operate facility/membership management software for functions including but not limited to: membership sales, point of sale, facility reservations, program registration, and reporting.
Maintain inventory and recommend purchases of equipment for checkout and other facility operation supplies. Develop program yearly budget, tracking and reporting, compiling revenue information on a per-session, semester, and fiscal year basis; monitor expenditures and payroll to meet budget goals.
Working Conditions: Standard working environment with possible minor inconveniences due to occasional noise, crowded working conditions and/or minor heating/cooling or ventilation problems.
Requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree
Minimum of two (2) years experience in collegiate recreation or equivalent field
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, manage time efficiently, and prioritize tasks
Supervisory experience of students
Strong oral and written communication
Ability to work a non-traditional work week
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, social justice, cultural competence, and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
Computer skills to include Excel, Word, Power Point, membership/facility management software (CSI).
Licenses/Certifications/Requirements: American Red Cross CPR Instructor (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
Physical Requirements: Moderate physical effort required involving long periods of standing, walking on rough surfaces, bending and/or stooping; periodic lifting of moderately heavy items (over 50lbs. -- 75 lbs.).
