UAB University Recreation will be offering two (2) internship positions for the summer of 2020, and four (4) graduate assistant positions for the fall of 2020. Our department is seeking motivated, organized individuals who can work in a diverse campus environment. Interns and Graduate Assistants are members of the professional staff and are expected to be leaders in their respective areas. Each position will offer hands-on experience and learning. Graduate Assistant Positions are currently available in the following areas:
Aquatics (contact Jenny Knejfl at email@example.com)
assist in day to day operations and management of the aquatic center
manage aquatics programming and assist in oversight of private and group swim lessons
inventory, maintain and order aquatic informal and program supplies
conduct daily inspections of pool, deck, mechanical room and patio
assist with hiring and oversight of aquatic staff including aquatic supervisors, lifeguards, and swim instructors
Fitness and Wellness (contact Payton Joyner at firstname.lastname@example.org)
assist in day to day operations and management of the group fitness program, F45 classes, personal training, and wellness resources
assist with planning and executing various fitness and wellness events
schedule fitness certification courses and workshops through national organizations
assist in teaching the NASM CPT preparation course
recruit, hire, train and schedule personal trainers, fitness instructors, and wellness resources employees
develop multiple fitness programs and challenges throughout the year
Operations (contact Kaitlyn Freeman at email@example.com)
provide oversight to Campus Recreation Center, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment is maintained
plan set-up and breakdown for all department special events, facility rentals and reservations
oversee facility staffing to include facility supervisors and attendants
provide staffing for all department special events, facility rentals and reservations; provide on-site supervision as needed
assist in planning and executing of all department special events
assist in development and implementation of policies and procedures for the Campus Recreation Center
Outdoor Pursuits (contact Payton Joyner at firstname.lastname@example.org)
plan and execute each semester's program schedule
assist in the planning and execution of each semester's outdoor trips
lead outdoor trips as necessary
provide oversight to the Outdoor Pursuits rental center
oversee the climbing wall operation
coordinate the setting of routes and boulder problems at the climbing wall
oversee Outdoor Pursuits staff to include rental center attendants, climbing wall attendants, and trip leaders
Minimum Qualifications: bachelor’s degree in related field, relevant experience, and acceptance into related graduate degree program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, ability to work 20 hours per week
Eligible candidates must be available to begin work no later than August 3, 2020.
Salary information: $9,000 stipend and tuition waiver
Internship Positions are currently available in the following areas:
Facility Operations (contact Kaitlyn Plan at email@example.com)
assist in day to day operations and management of the Campus Recreation Center
assist with hiring, training and oversight of facilities staff including attendants and supervisors
conduct daily facility inspections and all information and programming areas, ensuring high standards of facility maintenance and cleanliness
assist with all facility reservations, rentals, set-ups and tear-downs
Summer Camps (contact Jenny Knejfl at firstname.lastname@example.org)
assist in managing the day to day operations of the 11-week summer camp program
plan weekly camp games, activities, field trips and guest speakers
provide oversight and support to the camp counselor staff
set weekly and daily schedules for camp staff and assist with activity and program execution
Eligible candidates must be available to begin work no later than May 18, 2020.
Salary information: $500 monthly stipend and on-campus housing
